Content to be used to teach about the Big Idea and Standard (What do they need to know
before they begin?):
- Social structure of Ancient Rome
- How cement and aqueducts are related
- Significance of roads related to military and trade
- Vocabulary: aqueducts, engineering, gladiator, Colosseum
What are they reading?
Primary Sources: Images of aqueducts, the
Pantheon, the Colosseum
Secondary Sources: non-fiction informational
books provided in the library

Accommodations: Every 6th grade student has received a Lexile reading score through AIMSWEB
testing and for this project have been grouped by reading levels. The groups with lower-level
reading scores will receive additional support from a para-professional during the inclusion classes.

Extravaganza is shown through knowledge and understanding of how the accomplishments of
Ancient Rome impact our world today.
