8th Grade Science Project

2015-2016 Schedule

*Tuesday, August 25: 10 project ideas (in problem statement form) due in journal
Friday, August 28: Final project topic list in journal (15 problem statements total)
Thursday, September 3: Project problem due in journal with parent/guardian signature
*Thursday, September 10: Project research topic list due in journal
Friday, September 18: Introduction to Statement of Problem paragraph due (in
journal)
*Friday, September 25: Hypothesis, Experimental Design, and Data Table setup due (in
journal)
Assign Project Procedure
Begin project setup in order to collect data.
*Thursday, October 8: First typed draft of science paper dueTitle page, Introduction to
Statement of Problem, Review of Literature (research), Hypothesis, and
Works Cited
(End of 1st Quarter is Friday, October 16th)
Friday, October 16: Project Procedure due in journal
*Friday, October 23: 10 research vocabulary with definitions in journal
(Appendix A)
*Friday, October 30: Discussion of project progression in journal
*Friday, November 6: Project data, Appendix B (Illustrations), results paragraph, and
graphs due in journal
*Friday, November 13: Project statistical analysis, conclusion, and future study due
in journal
*Friday, November 20: Discussion and evaluation of project in journal
Tuesday, December 1: Final project paper in three ring binder and journal due (at least
25 individual entries)
**Must turn in graded copy of 1st draft with final paper or it will
docked one letter grade**
Friday, January 22: Project display with revised paper due
Week of February 1-6: West Platte Science Fair
Note: Journal entries are considered rough drafts and points will be earned for the attempt. The final
papers due on October 8th and December 1st should reflect corrections made in journal entries in order to
receive points possible.
(*)- These entries will be given some time in class to complete. Student may need to finish outside of
class.
