Stereotypical Soccer
When they finally write the Great American Teen Novel,
Rules will not apply.
Soccer will just represent a game, not our lives
and the events in them.
The rough players.
The stereotypes themselves.
They will push you down, knock you around,
Run you over.
They force you to feel anger, sadness,
Disappointment.
The uniforms.
The way you are classified,
The category you are placed in.
Your uniform shows what team you are on
and your level of skill.
If you want to be on the team, you have to wear the right thing.
No exceptions.
The positions.
You cant stray from the spot you are placed in,
It is imperative to follow the guidelines
Dont do anything the audience wouldnt expect,
They consider that a mistake
Dont do anything the other players wouldnt expect,
They consider that a catastrophe.
The coach.
The one that places us in our positions
The person that tells us how to act,
Where to play.
In reality, we are all a coach.
We have all stereotyped each other.

And finally, the referees.
The most popular of all.
Theyre the ones who make the calls.
When they demand something
Everybody listens, everybody obeys.
They have the final word
Cant argue with that.
When they finally write the Great American Teen Novel,
There will be no more positions.
People will act how they want, not how others expect them to.
And perhaps when this happens,
There will be no more coaches that judge you.
We will all be the players, but not have to play by the rules.
