James Buchanan

James Buchanan was our fifteen president and although many people
dont know of him the few that do know of him believe he failed as a
president to the United States. I Dont believe of him as a failure and
Ill be explaining the reasoning for my statement.

Before being president James Buchanan had an outstanding resume

that many people would envy he was a State
representative(Pennsylvania), US representative, US senator, Secretary
of state ,and foreign minister(England). Throughout all of these
employments he has been involved in many significant events for
example to list a few of many The Scott decision (1857) and John
Browns raid on Harpers ferry(1859).

James Buchanan won the election of 1856 by starting with and

advantage with the respect of the people ,because of his portfolio
many people already believed in him mainly because he served as
Polks secretary of state and Pierces minister of London(The most
important diplomatic post) which increased his chances considerably.

I believe that one of the reasons James failed was because of his
cabinet they were mostly rural men or people from past eras who
werent really politic material for their modern view to begin with
which mean they saw thing with less engagement.
During the secession of 1860-1861 many people thought James
Buchanan and his cabinet traitors ,but in reality they had nothing to
do with the secession. For decades the south taught the north was set
to destroy them ,but the fiction was more powerful than truth In this
matter.

Back to my original statement I said he wasnt a bad president. In my

opinion he had many thing setting him back although I only mentioned
one of the problems. He could have been a good president he had
many years of experience ,but I feel that all the stress ,all the fear of
messing up choked him up and he ended up not making the correct
decision and for that is the reason I believe people think of him as a
failure.

.Although many people believe of James Buchanan as not being

devious in reality he was a very smart politician he just thought out
his plans to not make a unnecessary mistake.

What do you believe?
