The World: El Salvador Political Conflict 10 points

El Salvador March 1980, Arch Bishop Oscar Romero was gunned down
as he celebrated mass in San Salvador. Some call him a dangerous Marxist
revolutionary, others call him a hero. Tension is still there now, 35 years later
when Romero is about to be beatified by the church, a first step towards
sainthood. A ceremony is planned tomorrow in San Salvador. Some say that
doing this for a deceased arch bishop should bring people together, but it
isnt because his name was made into a political weapon. The left says that
he is their Saint; the right sees it as he is our Saint. Oscar Romero has been
an ideological instrument, so people on the right are not as happy about this
ceremony. Many people hope this unites the public, but currently its
politically separating people.
