Final Reflection
My hope was by completing this coursework that I would be able
to present to students well-designed math units. I feel that I have
learned how to conduct effect discourse with students. My skill and
their understanding of mathematics will continue to grow as I take the
time to have those important discussions with students. Following a
logical sequence will enable students to better build their
understanding of mathematical concepts. I will have to let myself give
the time necessary for exploratory experiences so that students can
build their own more lasting connections. Effective assessments will
show me what students currently understand so that I can help them
connect that to more complex concepts. Effective differentiation will
require me to consider the demographics and backgrounds of my
students as well as to analyze their current success. All of this placed
into the context of a project-based learning unit will help students
engage in the content and ultimately be more successful learners. I
feel I have a better understanding of the components of well-designed
units and of how to construct them. I will be learning more about PBLs
this summer in the STEM Institute and that should help solidify what I
have begun to understand.
The next step will be to put into daily practice what I have
learned. All of these are elements of good teaching regardless of the

subject matter. I will need to apply it throughout all of my teaching. . I

am sure as I become more adept, my students will become more
successful.
