What is the difference between Maslow and Herzberg Theory of Motivation?

Maslow It is based on the concept of human needs and their satisfaction. However
Herzbergs It is based on the use of motivators which include achievement,
recognition and opportunity for growth
Maslow theory talks about the needs that are to be fulfilled in order to motivate a
person while Herzberg theory talks about the causes of satisfaction and
dissatisfaction. Herzbergs theory explains the factors that lead to motivation and
demotivation.
According to Maslows hierarchy of needs, human needs can be classified into five
basic categories as physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness needs, esteem
needs and self-actualization needs. However according to Herzbergs two factor
theory, there are two factors as hygiene factors and motivational factors which
affect the employees level of satisfaction
Similarity

Both use a hierarchical scale.where one stage must first be fully or largely
completed before advancing to the next stage.
Both theories are influenced by environmental conditions, employee attitudes
and as a result, their motivation. These influence an employees performance.
