It was 2:44, I was staring at the clock, waiting for the minute to be over.

School
would be done in 3, 2, 1, RRRING! The bell went off and everyone was dismissed.
Finally I thought. I grabbed my backpack, ran outside, hopped on my bike, and
pedaled as fast as I could. Dont be late, dont be late, do not be late! I rode up to
the lab, parked my bike outside, and ran in. I looked at the elevator doors. In front of
them was a sign that said: OUT OF ORDER! PLEASE USE STAIRS. I ran up all 6 flights,
and opened the door. Ah, Nick! My uncle Matthew said. Hi. I exclaimed, out of
breath. So, do you have the Nitrogen D 2 Q35? he asked me. I unzipped my
backpack and held up the test tube of purple liquid. Good, good. he said relieved.
You see, my uncle is a famous scientist, and ever since I learned this, I wanted to be
just like him. My mom and dad are on a trip in Mexico, which means I could help him
all month.
I gave him the test tube, which he carefully poured into a bottle. When he twisted a
knob, the liquid slowly poured into a heated glass cauldron. It evaporated into what
looked like purple steam, and flowed through the air into a bowl with saran wrap
plastered over the top of it. He placed 2 ice cubes on top of it. Now, pink liquid
dripped down from the saran wrap into the bowl. When it was done, he took the
liquid, put it back into the test tube, and handed it to me. I took some white powder
and put it the test tube, closed it, and shook it. I started to open it. Wait! Uncle
Matt blurted out, cautiously. I froze. Open it very slowly. If it gets impacted by the
oxygen too quickly, itll spoil it, and well have to do the process all over again!
Now I opened it slower than a snail. I spent $130 to buy it! When it was all the way
open, it started to fizz and bubble. I put it down on a test tube stand, and slowly
backed away. Dont worry! he said. I must have looked scared. None of my
experiments have been explosive. Then he added in a quieter voice, Yet. That
made me back away faster.
We waited a couple minutes, and the fizzes and bubbles had died down. Now it was
light blue. How come this thing changes color? I asked. Is it a rainbow in a bottle
or something? He wasnt listening. He was too busy examining the neon liquid.
Now I need to test it. he finally said. He took a bottle with a big crack in it, and
poured a tiny drop on it. Magically, the liquid spread over top of it, and filled in the
big crack with the exact same plastic the bottle was made of! Yes! Uncle Matt
exclaimed. Yes! It Works! It works!
Wow! I never saw my uncle this excited in his whole life. Now, he poured it over
some ripped jeans. It filled that in with the same fabric! Wow! I exclaimed
surprised. So this is actually what this experiment was for? I asked. Yes! he
replied. This will work for anything! Amazing! I looked at the clock. 3:42 Sorry
Uncle Matt! I gotta run. Bye! I told him as I ran out the door. Goodbye! Adios! Au
Revoir! he called after me. But I had already left the building.
I started biking. My friend Sarah rode up beside me. Nick! 3:43! she said. We kept
on biking. My friend Luke was soon on my other side. Guys! Its 3:44! Hurry! he
told us. We were still biking. Were there! I exclaimed. We had arrived at Cedar
Grove Recreation Center. We hurried to the Group/Club meeting room. Mrs. Klydle,
the secretary, was waiting for us. Youre just on time! I thought I was going to have
to give the room to the next club. she said. We went into room 16B. Our club

registered at the recreation center. Now it has its own room. Many other clubs did
the same. We only get to use it for half an hour, then the next club would come in. If
we werent there by 3:45, we would have to wait until next week.
Our club was just talking about what was going on. Guess what I said. My uncle
made this liquid, that if you put one tiny drop on anything with a hole in it, itll fill it
in with the exact same material. Anything? Sarah asked. Anything. I replied.
Cool! Luke said. Its like one of those movies, or comic books where if it falls into
the wrong hands, theyll take over the world! Luke. Me, you, Sarah, and my uncle
are the only people who knows about this. I said. Uh, Nick? That might not be
true. Sarah said looking at the top corner of the wall, worrying me. I looked there
too. There was a little lens there. The lens of a camera. The lens of a camera with a
red light. The lens of a camera that was recording our every move! Maybe it
doesnt record sound. Luke said, not very reassuring. Then whats that for? I said,
pointing to a tiny black microphone. I grabbed a chair, put it against the wall, stood
on it, and took down the camera and mic. We took it to Mrs. Klydle. Nope, this isnt
ours. She told us. We dont put our security cameras in the club rooms. Plus, ours
are on the celling, and have no microphone. We walked back. Maybe we should
tell your uncle. Sarah told me. Hell have a heart attack! He put his life and soul
into that project! I said. The camera made a beeping sound. We looked at it. The
beeping and light turned stopped. Out of battery. I said. Or memory. We walked
outside. Wait! Luke yelled. Look whats on our bikes! More cameras. We biked to
Uncle Matts lab. Hi Mr. Richard! I said as we ran past the maintenance man,
working hard on the elevator. We ran up all 6 flights, and at the corner of the door,
was another camera. There were countless cameras in the lab. Uh, Uncle Matt? I
asked him. Who knows about this? I asked, pointing to the test tube. Well, I guess
everyone who views my website. He said. He can be the smartest guy on earth,
but also the most absent minded person in the universe.
We went back downstairs. We were about to walk out the door when, CREAK! I
stepped again. CREAK! Another one? Mr. Richard said annoyed. How come
theres so many creaking tiles in this place? I stood on it. So did Sarah. Let me try
that! Luke said. Wait! Luke! Sarah exclaimed. But it was too late. He had already
stepped on. The tile slid. We fell. I was too scared to say anything. We landed. Ow!
I think I hit my funny bone. Luke yelled. The tile above us slid back. Lights turned
on. Hi. Someone said. Please! Dont hurt us! We turned around. A boy around
my age was there. Hey, its just me. Im Mark. He said. Where did you fall from?
My uncles lab. I responded. It seemed he knew more than me about this. I fell
through a hotel lobby. He said. All of the people that come here have scientists as
their relatives. Question: Where are we? Luke asked. Blaze Enterprises waiting
area. Mark explained. They try to steal info from us about our family discoveries,
and take the credit. I looked around. Guys! If we both came from families with
scientists in them, we can stop them! I told Mark. Mark, whats that? I asked
pointing to some bottles and jars. They give us those so we can invent more stuff.
Perfect! I said. I added some Nitrogen Backing 5, to some baking powder. Oh!
Mark exclaimed and joined in. What are they even doing? Sarah whispered to
Luke. I dont know, but just go with it. He whispered back. Now lets try this. I
said. We poured the liquid into four bottles, and threw one on the ground. A bouncy

green cube that looked like Jell-O appeared. We jumped on it. I threw one at the
wall. I threw another one. Now, I threw a purple one at the tile. The tile disappeared.
We climbed out. I grabbed the liquid Uncle Matt made and threw it on the tile. It
filled in the whole room with the tile. Hey! I was going to use that! He said. Trust
me. You shouldnt. Luke said. We took down the cameras, and put them
somewhere else. The trash. Youre secret is still safe Uncle Matt. I said. For now.
I guess I have to take it off my website. He said, gloomily. You made a good
choice. Mark said, patting him on the back. Who are you? He asked.
