Pivotal Event For History

The Invention of
Playboy

1 Main Cause Event

Date of Event: End of WWII

(1945)
Advertisements portraying women as housewives.

Why is this pivotal?

This was pivotal because it forced women to now move
from working in the war to now becoming housewives.
This served as a huge transition for many women. Most
women got bored of the life of being a housewife. Many
didn't believe that having the lifestyle was the great fit
for them. This could have stimulated a desire for
pleasure not only in a new occupation but for
themselves to enjoy such as having intercourse without
being required to marriage. Although many women
tried to maintain the image that the media held for
women, still many felt frustrated by the image society
had on thems yet most didnt speak up because of the
fear of being viewed as an outsider

Main Cause Event

Date of Event: Late 1940s

Men were constrained by society to only have one
wife and never get divorced. Also were expected to
lose their virginity until marriage.
What makes it pivotal event?
This caused a lot of men to feel tension of only being
able to have sex with only one women for the rest of
their life and feel guilty if they had sex with more
than one woman in their lifetime. It would be viewed
bad if a couple got divorced because of how society
would believe in something being strange with
them. Therefore, although people were married,
some of them may have not wanted to live the rest
of their life with their wives and longed for a divorce
but didn'tt want to take the opportunity or else they
would be viewed as an outsider in the society.
Therefore it caused men to either lose sexual desire
to their spouse because of either being with them
for the entire life and wouldn'tt want to divorce
because of the constraint in society.

Date of Event: Early

1950s
Children were becoming allowed to have more
freedom such as being with peers after school, and
receiving allowance in which they could spend the
money at their will.
Why is this pivotal?
This is pivotal because it caused the world war 2
veterans children to gain a sense of realization
that they can be liberal. The outcome caused them
to get into many conflicts with their parents. This
occurrence at a young age would eventually spark
a sense of sexual freedom to have affairs with
many women in their lifetime compared to their
parents which would only have exposure to one
person which would be their spouse. In a sense,
the few freedom that children gained would allow
them to not strive to live the life that they saw
there parents living miserably.

The release of Playboy

magazine
Date of event: December
1953
This month was when the first edition of playboy
magazine released. It sold so many copies
because of Marilyn Monroe being the sweetheart
of the month. It was a magazine that labeled itself
not to be for women but strictly to be passed
along to men. The reason why this event became
so pivotal throughout the later years was because
it was a main factor in changing how society
viewed women, and creating a platform for a new
rising counterculture that would use Hugh
Heffner's concept of having intercourse with not
only one women in their lifetime but with many
while still not having to consummate marriage but
doing it for the pleasure. This ideal way of thinking
was new, and caused most men to have an outlet
for sexual tension and repression.

Advertisement that promoted the everyday image of
women being housewives to now having a new
image of being sex symbols.

Why is it pivotal?
This became pivotal because now theirs a
transition of how men view women especially
their wives. This was a very controversial issue
because of how society's dorms were being
changed by a company providing a new set of
dorms for society. This gave women a sense of
now leverage towards the men because they
provided something such as intercourse in which
men grew a desire for after how the magazine
portrayed women. This caused many women to
now start to dislike how media portrayed them as
objects to men. Which for some women liked the
opportunity of being a sex symbol while others
disagreed with the new dorms within society.

When Rebel Without a Cause movie came out

Why is this pivotal?

This is pivotal because of how it was the first wide
known movie that portrayed a teenager played by
James Dean which was rebellious against his
parents and did things such as race with cars for
fun and sneak out the house. This served as a new
platform into teens at the time. Playboy magazine
at this time now became viewed as a sign of
rebellion against parents by teens acquiring these
magazines without their parents consent. For this
reason, many teens now started to get the playboy
magazine as a sign of rebellion towards their
parents as in saying that they dont want to be
following their footsteps. This movie motivated
teens to start behaving rebellious which would lead
for them to use playboy as a resource to show this
aggression of being a rebel.

Elvis First appearance on National Television.
Why is this pivotal?
This is pivotal because before the music industry had songs which
were made to stay strictly to being very well-mannered but when
Elvis got the opportunity to shine, he was doing new things which
were unheard of. New things such as moving his hips in a thrust
back in forth motion, this dance was referring to sex. Although
the dance was being cropped off by the cameramen, the new
style of music was beginning to be slightly accepted by society
because of the fact that it was being publicized. I believe that
playboy played a role in how this event happened because of how
the magazine portrayed a major concept of men having
intercourse with many women just for pleasure without having to
consummate a marriage. Now this new music artist is rising which
is in a way subliminally promoting this concept as well because of
playing the new genre of music (Rock n Roll). Now teens are
greatly being exposed to the new mindset of trying to be like Elvis
by even trying to replicate his signature dance. Teens couldnt
comprehend what this new feeling was but in reality it was them
feeling something which they never felt before which would later
lead to them to actually implementing the concept that Playboy
laid out which is sex with women without having to consummate
a marriage.

Personal Pivotal Event

My spring SLC conference

Where I was headed Before the

Event
Before the event I was going
through junior year only striving
for a basic grade which would be
easy for me to get. I didnt really
encourage myself to do better or
set my bar higher because I was
comfortable in the type of
environment I created for myself
which would be not studying a
lot for tests during 1st semester.
In some way I didnt believe in
myself to be able to set my bar
higher and to see myself fail.

Spring SLC Conference

Date of Event: March 11, 2015
What happened in this event is that I would meet with my
teachers and parents to discuss my grade during 2 nd
semester and to see how I can find a solution to either bring
them higher or maintain them good.

Why was it pivotal?

This SLC wasnt as ordinary as any other SLC I had before
because this time I was to be situated with McGregor,
Anderson, and Sy. My teachers discussed to my parents that
I was a good all around kid but that my grades werent at
the level that I should be. My grades were alright but not
the level at which I should be because they were Bs. What
stuck with me the most was when Anderson mentioned that
in my 1st semester I passed with a B+ and that he saw
potential in me to do better on the 2 nd semester with being
able to pass with an A. Anderson is one of my favorite
teachers, and those words really encouraged me to
motivate myself to not just strive for Bs but to extend my
reach and get higher grades in my classes. It shifted my
mindset in a positive way to now try to put the extra effort I
needed to fully grasp the content instead of only striving for
basic understanding.

My New Trajectory after the

Event
My trajectory afterwards was that I then strived to
achieve higher grades and push myself more than
1st semester and the beginning of second
semester. One such example was when I took my
first history quiz I got a 2.5 and was disappointed
because everyone else was claiming for it to be
easy. I then did the test corrections and studied
harder for the next quiz and I then got a 3.25 on
my 2nd quiz. I continued to do the test correction
and although I never made it on the wall of 3.5 I
was proud of myself for improving in every quiz.
On the final exam I got a 3.5, this goes to show
that I implemented the idea of trying to achieve
higher that what my expectations were before.
Although in other classes I still had basic grades, I
continued to try to do better than before. My
mindset has changed to motivate me to do better
and I believe that I can utilize this for my senior
year by applying myself to learn the content at a
higher level.
