Ms. Es Expectations
(Classroom Rules)
.

Welcome to Ms.
Ewtons Class!
To be the best you can be.

I am so excited to have you

and your student as part of our
classroom family this year! We will
be getting to know each other
quite well as the year gets
underway, but I wanted to take this
opportunity to introduce myself. I
am from Northwest Georgia, but I
have lived in South Georgia for
about five years. I hold an
Associates of Science degree in
Family and Consumer Sciences
Education from Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College, as well as a
Bachelors of Science Degree in
Early Childhood Education from
Georgia
Southwestern
State
University. This will be my first year
teaching here, so I look forward to
learning with you, as we embark on
this school year! In this letter, I will
enclose lots of information that will

LIVE

A life you can be proud of.

To serve others.

As much as you can today!

LEARN

What is expected of you.

To ask for what you need.

When we are living and learning, as

we should we will experience the
last expectation

The respect of others.

EARN

Sense of pride in yourself.

The reward/grade you want.

These
expectations
will
be
encouraged and enforced using the
token system. When the student
meets or exceeds an expectation,
they will be rewarded tokens that
will
be
accumulated
and
exchanged for rewards. When a
student
fails
to
meet
an
expectation in the Live or Learn
section, that student will have a
single token deducted from their
running total. In the event that a
student
depletes
their
token
bucket, the student will conference
with me and any of the following:
school counselor, administrator,
school resource officer and/or
parent. I dont anticipate having to
deduct many tokens this year, so
this shouldnt be a problem.

Native
American
Report:
Students will research a tribe of
Native Americans in small
groups. They will each write a
one page typed report on the
tribe and perform a two-minute
skit on that tribe.
Weathering,
Erosion,
and
Deposition Project: Students will
each find and produce a
replicated example of either
weathering,
erosion,
or
deposition of rocks. They will
bring it to school to share with
the class.

**More information on these projects**

will be sent home in your students
Boomerang Folder closer to the time
that they will be prepared.

NOTE: Students will NOT be

penalized in the token system for
an unsatisfactory grade. This will
only reflect in the grade book.

Stress that this test is NOT that

big of a deal, but it is to be
taken seriously.
Make sure that your student
gets a good nights rest the
nights before testing.
Encourage your student often,
and make sure they dress
comfortably on test days.

Family Activities
Standardized Testing
In fifth grade, we are so
fortunate
to
only
have
one
standardized
test,
the
Georgia
Measures
of
Achievement
and
Progress (GMAP) or, as you may know
it, The Georgia Milestones test. It is a
must-pass test in the areas of
English/Language Arts and Math. Here
are some tips to assure that your
student is ready for this testing when
it occurs in April.

Study with your child, beginning

at the start of the year.
Feed your student a good
breakfast every day, especially
testing days.

It is so vitally important to take

ownership of your childs learning
experience by enriching it at home.
Each month, I will send out a
newsletter, which will contain a new
activity you can do as a family. This
month I encourage you to
Cook together!
Why?:
Making
something
simple in the kitchen together
will
reinforce
measurement
skills the students are taught in
math class.
