Conflict/ Resolution Analysis Paragraph for The Necklace
The conflict and resolution in the short- story The Necklace by Guy de
Maupassant is very intense. The conflict with the main character is, she is very
disconsolate with her life and fantasies about living a life full of riches and fame. Mrs.
Loisel is saddened about her life and despises the social class of others. She is very
obsessed with wanting to be wealthy she spends most of her day dreaming about the
luxury of fancy furniture and eloquent jewelry. The night Mrs. Loisels husband tells her
about the big reception Mrs. Loisel is saddened by the fact that she will look like poor
and not rich like the other wives (223). This is the resolution when her husband gives her
money to buy a nice dress. Mrs. Loisel goes out and buys a new dress but realizes it is
nothing without a piece of jewelry in which she does not own. Mr. Loisel tells to go to
her friend Mrs. Forestier and borrow something of hers (223). The night of the reception
comes and Mrs. Loisel looks fantastic and feels that way also. The night of fun and fame
ends when another conflict arises and Mrs. Loisel loses the necklace and her nd her
husband spend the next ten years paying for it. The conflict of the story is Mrs. Loisel has
always wished for fame and spends her days in poverty and when she finally has the one
night of glory it is soon ruined and makes her poor life worse.
