Here is an example on how to practice your presentation. (Unit 1: A Motto for Life)
First, write out what you want to say and then practice saying it.
!
Hello everyone! If youre like me, you enjoy helping people and make them feel
good. Being kind to others is one of my personal values. Some other things I value
include honesty, and my relationships with friends and family. Today Im going to share
my personal motto and explain its meaning. Then Ill go on to talk about some past
experiences that relate to my motto. Finally, Ill tell you how my motto helps me in life.
!
My motto is A candle loses none of its light by lighting another candle. In other
words, when you light one candle with another, the first candle doesnt go out, it stays
just as bright. This means that it doesnt take a lot of effort to be kind to others, and it
makes us feel good.
!
I try to live my life by this motto as much as possible. For instance, a few years
ago, I found a bag containing a wallet, camera, and other valuables on a park bench.
There was a hotel card in the bag, so I took it straight to that hotel. In the hotel lobby, a
young man, in a panic, was in the middle of telling the staff that hed lost his bag
somewhere. He was really pleased to see his bag and was very grateful that Id brought
it to the hotel. He offered me some money as a reward but I didnt accept it.
!
My motto helps me to be honest. It also reminds me that I can make a world a
better place by doing something kind for someone else. Remember that you can be a
candle, too, and its easy to light many other candles each and every day. Thank you.
