SECTION 1: FINDINGS
Congress makes the following findings:
1) Not all states in the US legalize same-sex marriage; 13 states, including Texas, ban
it. According to a news article in The Guardian written on 5/12/15, Texas Republicans can
potentially block LGBT rights in the state very soon.
2) The Defense of Marriage Act allows states to not recognize same-sex marriages
approved in other states, preventing same-sex couples from receiving marriage benefits.
SECTION 2: PURPOSE
This bill provides that same-sex and different-sex couples be treated equally everywhere in
the US.
SECTION 3: GENERAL PROVISIONS
State governments and businesses must give same-sex couples the same privileges and
benefits that couples consisting of men and women are allowed to enjoy.
That way, same-sex couples can sustain their financial conditions more easily.
Discrimination against people of the LGBT is prohibited, as they are also humans, just like
everyone else. This can progress the United States towards their ideals of liberty, equality,
and freedom.
A state government must approve same-sex couples as married; it does not matter where the
same-sex couples married.
SECTION 4: DEFINITIONS
Privileges and benefits: Examples include family and medical leave and immigration rights.
Discrimination: Treating same-sex couples as inferior to heterogeneous couples because of
their sexuality.
