There is a wide variety of problems that occur in Latin America.

One of
the huge and most important problems is the past and history that the Latin
America nations have. All of the Latin American nations were originally their
own separate colonies, not all formed together. In the richer areas of Latin
America, Spain and Portugal established their land and colonies. Once they
got the land, they didnt care what happened to it or if it was being well
maintained. However, there were already tribal groups established in these
areas, which the Spanish and Portuguese enslaved and even committed
mass murders to. After getting fed up usually revolutions would occur, which
would form new free nations. The only problem with this was that the new
nations were left without guidance. Eventually, the U.S stepped in to help
them form and get on the right track (higher standards of economic and
political systems). They created the Monroe doctrine and warned the
European nations not to get involved with Latin America. The Monroe
doctrine was used to simply justify that if any Latin America affairs involved
U.s expansion, that the U.S could get involved. This helped greatly in the use
of minimizing communism in Latin America nations. After this, the Latin
America government pretty much went straight downhill. Socialist leaders
elected by people, were commonly getting overthrown, causing military style
dictators to run the country. Latin America was also in trouble because of
the economic burden of the huge debt that they had to pay back. The next
major issue and problem is Latin America is the high level of poverty. Of
course in the United States there are some low income areas, however they
are no match for those in Latin America. Between the high crime rate levels
and dumpy favelas, the comparison is not even close. In places like Rio De
Janerio people could be living in a half a million dollar high rise and look
through the windows and see homeless and poor people. The difference in
social and economic class is ridiculous. There is almost no middle class, its
almost like youre either extremely rich or extremely poor. And nobody wants
to change anything to help benefit the lower class, the want to keep the
power for themselves (almost in a greedy way). These two issues are
essentially whats holding back Latin America from having a fully functional
and exemplary government.
