This quote could have one or two meanings in my opinion. The quote could stand for the
meaning of war and the perspectives could be change. This means that in one persons
perspective, the other person could be the enemy and the so called villain. In the other
persons perspective it could mean that the original person is the enemy. The author, William
Golding is saying that with his experience in war, he has seen enough to say that the men he calls
his fellow soldiers could be just as guilty as the Nazis. The Nazis did unspeakable acts to
innocent people during WWII. Mr. Golding is stating that his fellow soldiers have done the same
during war, having little or no humanity, same as the Nazis. Mr. Golding also states that it was
sensible for him to write after the war. With the experience that Mr. Golding had, and the
experiences he lived, Mr. Golding had seen unspeakable acts and had to relay this to the public.
The Nazis were not the best people, and neither were the Americans. Mr. Golding is simply
stating that the art of war is all about perspective. Perspective can represent both sides of a
conflict and also affects both sides of a conflict. Overall, this quote means to me that war is about
perspective.
