Judge Thomas L. Kay
2" District Court Davis Count
805 South Main
Bountiful, UT 84010
Dear Judge Kay,
‘My name is Ed Porter and I am the boyfriend of Brianne Land Altice. I have been in a relationship with
her since September 2014. I am fully aware of her court case and the potential punishment that she
faces. Ihave been to hearings in support of her but also to hear testimony for myself. You have heard
testimony on behalf of her accusers, the prosecution, and her attomey but you have not heard from
her. I'd like to take this opportunity to express my belief in her so you can hear about the person I
know. Iam a college graduate, working professional and never been in trouble with the law. I come
from a good, two parent home raised on Christian beliefs and respect for the law. If I did not believe in
her I would not be writing this letter on her behalf.
‘The Brianne I know is a loving mother, sister, and daughter. She cares most about her faith, children and
family. She is kind, unselfish, and wants to help others less fortunate; placing the needs of those she
cares about above her own. She is a hard worker and loyal employee. She's honest, has integrity and
lives her life according to good principles. Brianne has great drive and resolve. ‘Throughout the
pregnancy, birth, and infancy of her first child she eamed a bachelor's degree within 3 years. During the
pregnancy and birth of her second child she earned a Master's degree of Education within one year. She
believes in overcoming adversity and tries to make the best of situations.
Despite this difficult time she has not tumed away from her faith but used this as an opportunity to grow
and become stronger. Her desire is to learn from this experience, to become a better person, and to
continue raising her children. God willing she would like to be a mother that has the opportunity to
attend her kids’ activities such as dance recitals, sports activities, high school graduation, and raise them
to be responsible citizens. It is not just her that is presently paying a price but also her family and most of
all her children. She and her family have faced scrutiny from critics, the media, and the
prosecution. During this time she has tried to believe that the legal system would prevail in revealing the
truth. Despite the accusations I believe she is neither a sexual predator nor a threat to the public as aa
described by the prosecution. I do not believe she deserves prison or further jail time! Even the
prosecution admitted to you in the last hearing that they agreed to a plea bargain because quote/unquote
“There were too many holes in their case.”
Brianne has served punishment in jail since January, lost time away from her family and loved ones, gone
through a divorce, lost her career as an educator, her character/reputation has been tarnished, and she has
to rebuild her life once her time is served. I believe she deserves an opportunity to demonstrate that she is
a loving parent, productive citizen and will abide by the law. She has paid a great price already!
I thank you for the opportunity to read my letter and hope that you will take my words into consideration
while deciding her sentence!
Sincerely,
De fOr
