"tholos".
The tholos was a circular building devoted to Asklepios and his
diameter was 21,80 metres. It was surrounded by 26 doric columns,
7 meters tall, which were supporting the architrave, the circular
metopes and frieze. The interior of the cella had been painted by
Pausias of Sikyon. Inside there was a peripteros and a second
series of 14 Corinthian columns. The floor had been constructed
from black and white pieces of marble. It was constructed by the
architect Polykleitos of Argos, 360 - 330 BC.
