Leftovers with 20

Objective: To develop the concept of division as repeated subtraction.


A game for 2 players
Materials: 1 die; 20 counters
Procedure:
1. The first player rolls the die, takes that number of counters to form a group in order to
form as many groups as possible. If there are leftover counters, the first player
keeps them.
Example: No 3 is rolled. The 20 counters can be grouped into 6 groups of 3
counters with a remainer of 2 counters

Division sentence: 20 3 = 6 remainder 2


2. The second player writes the division sentence on a recording sheet.
3. The players switch roles and continue until there arent any counters left.
4. The player with more counters is the winner.
