Math Program Progress
[As we are completing the second year of our new math program, our teachers are seeing
‘big dtference with the complexity and the expectations of ther students and are very
hhappy withthe new math program. Here are some quotes from our teachers:
First grade teacher
"The 1st graders ate more knowledgeable in their number sense and they are proficient
with double digit addition and subtraction with regrouping - they have never been here
before in our other program.”
‘Tih and 8th grade toachor
‘Tove thatthe kids are not reviewing things they have already learned and know well- the
‘expectations forthe kids are much higher but whl they are expected to dois not Beyond
ther abilty. They are rising tothe occasion!"
Second grado teacher
"2nd graders are leaving 2nd grade adding and subtracting mentally with regrouping - they
have never been al this level a the end of 2nd gradé
4th grado teacher
"The mutt-step problem solving is very challenging. The students realy get a great feeling
‘of accomplishment in solving these dificult word problems,
‘th and 6th grade teacher
“Our students are earning math at a much deoper level. Rather than just
knowing what the answer is, they are constantly asked to explain how they got their
answer and why they took the route they did to get fo the answer
ITBS Results
Please see below the results of ITBS for this school year. This isa standardized test
requifed by the Diocese of Kansas Ciy-St Joseph for grades 4, 6, and 8. St. Therese
{goes beyond the diocesan requirement and offers the test annually to all students in grades
3 through 8. We continue fo use these scores along with our other test data to drive
instruction. We sludy carefuly each area long withthe specific components under each
subject area to see areas of strength and growth and each teacher looks at individual test
Soares 0 as to indivdualize intruction. You wil be hear more about your child's individual
scores in your pareniteacher conference in October.
