The line graph illustrates the proportion of first-year teachers between English

language teacher and French language teacher in Ontario in the period from 2001
to 2007.
Overall, the recruitment rate of English language teacher decreased dramatically in
the period of 6 years, while this rate of French language teacher fluctuated between
2001 and 2007. In addition, the recruitment percentage of French language teacher
was higher than English language teacher almost all the time surveyed.
In the 2001-2003 period, the rate of first year teachers who taught English fell
dramatically to around 40% in 2003 before rising slightly to approximately 44% in
next 2 years. However, the period from 2005 to 2007 showed a largely decline in
recruitment proportion to the lowest point of the whole line graph, about 28% in
2007
By contrast, the figure for the recruitment rate of French language teacher
decreased sharply to over 50% from 2001 to 2002 before increased to under 70%
in the following decade. In next three years, this percentage fluctuated, although it
always remained over 5%. In contrast, there was an increase to around 75% in the
French language teacher rate in 2007.
