Poetic Efficiency

Some people have a short attention span,

And not to place a bigger burden on it,
For saving time in poetry you can
Take 50 seconds just to read a sonnet.

With intro, that's a minute of your time.

A sonnet can't be viewed as "Mamby Pambic"
It's A-B A-B C-D C-D rhyme
And also in pentameter (Iambic.)

To write a sonnet, as the book defines,

Start with a great idea in your dome,
And then you pare it down to fourteen lines
By throwing out the stuff that's not a pome.

So when you think of all the the work that's in it,

Would it kill you to listen for one minute?
