1. There was a sense of abandonment to the building, old and forgotten.

The door hung wearily upon its corroded hinges. The paint on the walls
peeled and flaked as though the house had a disease of the skin. The
boards of the floor were warped through age and neglect. Though the
windows were intact the build up of grime acted like a natural curtain
blanketing the light that entered and making it meagre. Webs from
productive spiders adorned the corners, the fittings and anywhere else
that they could spin two pieces of silken trappings together from.
2. She looked at her daughter lying in the bed. Her daughter before her
had tubes running into her nose, and the translucent skin was not the
daughter she knew. Sara could barely breathe. Her body was nearly
lost in the sheets of the hospital bed and he didn't move. She sucked in
air through a tube in his throat and the machines pushed the oxygen
into him in a rhythmic tempo that was almost irritating.
3. Soon, it began sprinkling. Little droplets of water drenched her hair,
skin, and dress. The water droplets began growing larger and falling
frequently. The light pitter patter of rain turned into wet thuds as the
icy water raced to meet the ground. The sprinkling turned into a
torrential downpour.
4. "She didn't understand, as if her brain short-circuited and needed to be
rebooted. Around her, everything was in fast-forward while she was
motionless in the middle of it all. How could this happen?"
5. It seemed as if a smile was plastered on her face when she heard the
good news.
6. Her eyes were puffy from crying because she couldn't stop crying for
the past weeks . She was dehydrated, and sore. Sobs raked her body;
no one should be able to cry that hard.
7. The old dust box sat in the corner. It wooden sides were splintered
along the bottom and it wore a coat of faded blue which was still
visible across the top. It was roughly the shape and size of a large
suitcase.
