Materials: a compound light microscope, slides, dropper, onion, water, iodine solution.

1- Students must know the cell theory and the history of cell
Lesson objective(s):
1- Define a cell
2- Compare the parts of plant and animal cells
3- Know the function and structure of some important parts of the cell
4- Know the similarities and differences between plant and animal cells
Differentiation strategies to meet diverse learner needs:
Some students can practice preparing and viewing sample slides on microscope.
ENGAGEMENT
Students are advised to read the handout few minutes before the class starts.
Practice with the students preparing human cheek cells, blood cells, and onion cells.
Students should be able to identify a plant cell from an animal cell
EXPLORATION
Students will be able to prepare microscopic slides and stain them
Students must be able to view slides under different magnifications
Students must be able to calculate the total magnification and sketch a biological drawing and label it
Students must be able to solve the handout questions and solve the research exercise
ELABORATION
Students can read handout provided to develop sophisticated understanding of the concept.
Shadow teachers are requested to prepare a glossary to the important scientific vocabulary words.
EVALUATION
Students should be able to solve the practice book exercises individually
Students must be able to solve the handout exercises
