ACETATE AND LEVONOEGESTREL IMPLANTCONTRACEPTIVE

ABSTRACT

Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Levonoegestrel Implant are synthetic

progestin hormonal contraceptives that have limitations in weight gain effect and lipid
metabolism. This study aims to determine the differences of lipid profile in acceptor Depo
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Implants Levonorgestrel.
This study was a comparative cross-sectional study. The study had been done at
Laboratory of Biochemistry Faculty of Andalas University in March-May 2014. The sample
consisted of two groups, each group had 20 samples. The examination used an enzymatic
colorimetric method (GPO-PAP) for trygliserida and (CHOD-PAP) for total cholesterol, HDL
and LDL.
The result showed average level of triglycerides in Depo Medroxyprogesterone
Acetate was (133.02 29.53) mg / dl and Levonorgestrel Implants was (121.31 24.06) mg /
dl with p-value (0.177). The Average of total cholesterol levels in Depo
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate was (171.33 35.61) mg / dl and Levonorgestrel Implants was
(175.58 41.17) mg / dl with p-value (0.728). An average level of HDL in Depo
Medroxyprogesterone Acetate was (75.81 34.84) mg / dl and Levonorgestrel Implants was
(96.23 43.32) mg / dl with p-value (0.109). P-value> 0.05 at average levels of triglycerides,
total cholesterol and HDL means there is no significantly difference. LDL levels average in
Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Levonorgestrel Implants were (95.51 20.47) mg /
dl and (79.35 12.55) mg / dl with p <0.05 (0.005) means there is a significantly difference
between average of LDL levels in Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Levonorgestrel
Implants.
This research concluded that there were no significant difference in the average levels
of trigiserida, total cholesterol and HDL in Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and
Levonorgestrel Implants. There was a significant difference on average levels of LDL in the
Depo Medroxyprogesterone Acetate and Levonorgestrel Implants.
