The Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) is the regulatory authority of the communications sector in Kenya with the regulatory oversight over the provisions of telecommunications, radio communications, broadcasting, electronic transactions, the countrys numbering and frequency spectrum resources as well as postal and courier services. CA is also mandated to protect the interests of consumers of these services. The County ICT Consumer Forums are a partnership between CA, consumer organizations, County Government, State Agencies, ICT equipment vendors and operators/service providers meant to increase consumers knowledge of their rights and responsibilities through a national conversation on issues affecting consumers. The Uasin Gishus Forum main theme will be Mobile Phone Services, Mobile Phone Equipment and Quality of Service.
Objectives of the County Consumer Forums
The County Consumer Forums will: Create a medium for dialogue and action Facilitate in development of a platform for interaction with communication service providers.
Increase consumers awareness on rights and
responsibilities Increase the level of awareness of CAs role and mandate Provide the consumer or user with expert advice Serve as principal source of credible and accurate information on ICT
The county ICT Consumer Forums will enable
communication service providers to have a deeper understanding of consumer issues and concerns as directly presented by consumers.
Outputs of the County Consumer Forums
The outputs of the County Consumer Forums are as follows: A platform to dialogue in Counties Create a direct feedback mechanism with Consumers in Counties To enable CA develop interventions in Consumer protection, education & empowerment To increase the level of Consumer satisfaction at the Consumer level A forum report will be prepared at the end of every consumer forum and widely published in a
manner that would be easily accessible by
consumers Publication of actual proceedings on the Authoritys website (Video)
