Yojana (PMJDY), SBI took the lead in opening, around 1.9 million accounts in Chhattisgarh by sharing about 30 percent of the new accounts.
According to state government
officials, 1904000 new bank accounts had been opened across Chhattisgarh. Under the scheme, the state had set a target to open 2.5 million more bank accounts in the coming days. All the bank accounts are opened with zero balance.
Of the total accounts opened in the
state, 975977 bank accounts had been opened in rural area while 928291 accounts had been opened in urban area. All the 27 public sector and 14 private sector banks in Chhattisgarh are engaged in this scheme.
The SBI, which had been made the
nodal bank for implementing the scheme, had taken lead by opening 548758 bank accounts under the PMJDY in Chhattisgarh.
It had been followed by
Chhattisgarh Gramin Vikas Bank that had opened 476569 accounts since the scheme started some three months ago.
PMJDY scheme was launched by
our Prime Minister in the month of August. The main features of this scheme can also be implemented in every state of India.
Chhattisgarh Jan Dhan Yojana was
also launched on the same day. It includes Rs 5,000 overdraft facility for Aadhar-linked accounts RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt Rs 1 lakh accident insurance cover.
After about four months after the launch of
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY), bank accounts of about 26 lakh families have been opened. The scheme envisages universal access to banking facilities with at least one basic account for every household with focus on financial literacy, access to credit, insurance and pension facility.
In addition, the beneficiaries get
RuPay debit card having inbuilt accident insurance covers of Rs 1 lakh.
Prior to the launch of Chhattisgarh
Jan Dhan Yojana, the main objective was to enroll over 7.5 crore (75 million) households and to open their accounts.
The scheme has been started with a target
to provide 'universal access to banking facilities' starting with "Basic Banking Accounts" with overdraft facility of Rs.5000 after six months and RuPay Debit card with inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh and RuPay Kisan Card.
Under the scheme:
1. The account holders will get the provision of zero-balance bank account with RuPay debit card, in addition to accidental insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh. 2. Those who open accounts by January 26, 2015 over and above the 1 lakh accident, they will be given life insurance cover of 30,000.
3. The holders can avail 5,000 overdrafts from the bank.
4. With the introduction of new technology introduced by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a person can transfer funds, check balance through a normal phone earlier which was limited to only normal phones. 5. Mobile banking for the poor would be available through National Unified USSD Platform (NUUP) for which all banks and mobile companies have come together. With the introduction of Chhattisgarh Jan dhan yojana, a number of people living in the far off rural places have benefitted.
