URGENT MESSAGE: More schools are at risk of closing tell your Assemby Member to do the right thing and support the Parental Choice in Education Act.
Blessed Sacrament School in
the Bronx closed in 2013.
Because Assembly Member Morelle
is refusing to support the Parental Choice in Education Act, more schools
like Blessed Sacrament are in danger of closing hurting our kids. Before it was closed, Blessed Sacrament School in the Bronx helped one little girl achieve her dream of trading thisuniform
All families deserve a choice when it comes to their
childs education. Unfortunately, many families across New York State are struggling financially to make that right choice.
The schools that suffer are the schools
in poor neighborhoods. And theyre the ones with the least resources to absorb the loss. These are people who rely on institutions like this to give their kids an opportunity in life.
...for this one.
Justice Sotomayor on religious school closings,
CNN, 3/7/13
Right now, The State Assembly is considering a bill (the Parental
Choice in Education Act) that would help give every child, regardless of income or zip code, the opportunity to accomplish whatever they dream.
The Parental Choice in Education Act includes an
Education Tax Credit, which will provide $150 million in tax credits annually to: Reimburse public school teachers $200 for paying out of their own pockets for classroom supplies. Encourage donations to critical school programs such as pre-k and after-school programs like art, music, and tutoring. Provide a $500 tax credit to families with incomes below $60,000 who send their children to religious or private schools. Encourage donations to pay for scholarships for low- and middleincome students who attend religious, public, or private schools.
Justice Sotomayors story
is one Ive heard often, from parents all over our state. The Parental Choice in Education Act will prevent the closure of some of our oldest, most storied schools. I strongly urge our Assembly members to support parental choice.
