The Score Report ‘An offical MAT score report consists of fe pats: + Verbal Sealed Score (on a scale ftom 010 60) + Quantitative Sealed Score (ona scale from 0 to 60) + Total Sealed Score (ona scale trom 200 to 800) + Analyical Wing Assessment (AWA) Score (ona scale from Oto 6) + Ietograted Reasoning Score (on a scale from 1108) The total score isa scaled combination of te verbal and quanttaive scaled scores, and thus reflects a student's overall performance on the ‘muliple-choiee sections ofthe lest, The AWA and the Integrated Reasoning sections ate score independent; scores for these sections do not affect he 200-800 sealed soar. The Verbal and Quantitative Sections ‘To compute the scaled score forthe Verbal and Quantitative sections, GMAT uses an algorthm that takes the following factors into account + the number of questions answered within the time permites + the number af questions answered correctly + the statsteal naracterstics (including level of ifculy) ofthe questions answered ‘A te beginning of each section, the GMAT presents a question in the middle range of itfcuty. Ifthe question is answered correcy, the next ‘question wil be harder and the testtaker's score will adjust upwards. Ihe question is answered incorrectly, the next question will be easier, and the testakers score vil adjust downwards. (The test taker does not see this adjustment because ine score isnot revealed ut the ene test has been completed) Thus, the algorthm is constantly recalculating the scaled score as the student progresses through the section. ‘As a test-taker answers more questions, the algorithm ecelves more information about his or her sklls ands able to calculate an accurate score wth greater and greater precision. Consequenty, the questions athe beginning ofthe section are welghted much more heavily than ‘questions near the end ofthe section. For example, by the ime Question 36 appears, the computer has had 35 questions tram which to derive the proper score range. So even f Question 36 were answered corecly, the increase in Score would be minimal compared to the increase in soore f Question 2 had been answered correctly Upon completing the GMAT, test-takers must decde whether or not to keep their scores. Those who choose to keep ther scores are able to ‘ew the total scaled score along withthe separate Verbal and Quanttatve scales scores, Those who choose to cancel cannot view any scores. ‘The real value ofa GMAT score is determined by its percentile ranking.
