California Gold Rush

The California Gold Rush began on January 24th, 1848,
when the gold was discovered by James W. Marshall at
Sutters Mill, in Colome, California. When they said these in the
news, the gold brought about 300,000 people to California from
the rest of the U.S and abroad. Of the 300,000, approximately
half arrived by sea, and half came overland from the east, on
the California Trail and the Gila River trail. The gold-seekers,
called "Forty-Niners" (as a reference to 1849), traveled by
sailing ship While most of the newly arrived were Americans.
The Gold Rush attracted tens of thousands from Latin America,
Europe, Australia, and Asia. At first, gold nuggets could be
picked up off the ground. Before the techniques they used were
not very good, but after a time they started doing better ones.

Cowboys
A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on
ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often
performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. The historic
American cowboy of the late 19th century arose from the
vaquero traditions of northern Mexico and became a figure of
special significance and legend. A subtype, called a wrangler,
specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to

ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos.

The cowboy has deep historic roots tracing back to Spain and
the earliest European settlers of the Americas. Over the
centuries, differences in terrain, climate and the influence of
cattle-handling traditions from multiple cultures created several
distinct styles of equipment, clothing and animal handling.

Transcontinental Railroad
A transcontinental railroad is a contiguous network of railroad
trackage that crosses a continental land mass with terminals at
different oceans or continental borders. Such networks can be
via the tracks of either a single railroad, or over those owned or
controlled by multiple railway companies along a continuous
route. Although Europe is crisscrossed by railways, the
railroads within Europe are usually not considered
transcontinental, with the possible exception of the historic
Orient Express. Transcontinental railroads helped open up
unpopulated interior regions of continents to exploration and
settlement that would not otherwise have been feasible. In
many cases they also formed the backbones of cross-country
passenger and freight transportation networks.

Native Americans
Native Americans are Indians that are inside of the presentday U.S (including the indigenous peoples of Alaska and
Hawaii) and are composed of numerous, distinct tribes, bands
and ethnic groups, many of which survive as intact, sovereign
nations. The terms Natives use to refer to themselves vary
regionally and generationally, with many older Natives selfidentifying as "Indians," while younger Natives often identify as
"Indigenous." Which terms should be used by non-Natives has
at times been controversial. The term "Native American" has
been adopted by major newspapers and some academic
groups, but does not traditionally include Native Hawaiians or
certain Alaskan Natives, such as Aleut, Yup'ik, or Inuit peoples.
Native peoples from Canada are known as First Nations.

Conclusion
As a conclusion I think that we have a loooot to say about
the Westward Expansion, and that there are a lot of topics, but
the main ones are the ones that you just read. I hope that you
learnt a little bit of what i wrote, bye-bye and until the next topic!
