Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics
Final Assessment Comments
Your paper has provided detailed information for P2, P3, M2 and D2. You have identified the audience
and purpose of a design, this purpose has been shown in the two designs you have created which I
have really enjoyed seeing develop. I thought the justification for your choices was very well made and
the final research justification elements was well done.
Im really looking forward to seeing these designs become realised.
General Comments

This paper has a good structure and has shown your ability to plan to a
brief with skill and understanding.
Something the I thought most people would have benefited from in this
complicated assignment is to create report headings early on, along with
notes for each section; to really plan to meet the criteria

Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics
Specific Scenario
For the second challenge they want you to promote a fictional technology product,
they havent given you any details of the product yet because they dont want you to
know what they are working on, so they have asked use you to:
1. create a general technology invention that might be an innovation possible in the
next 5 years. For this they will need an image of the product and line drawing(s) of
the product illustrating the size and main features. they want to product to be used
as a high quality print, for use in something like a magazine. if you cant think of an
innovation yourself you can use an existing innovation and decide how you would
market it.
2. create a logo that they can use for either the marketing of that product,
or just a logo for the company website. The logo will have to reflect the
innovative nature of the company or reflect the nature of the product in some
way. The logo will have to be in a compressed appropriately for viewing on
screen (the website used to advertise the smartphone) and on paper (high-end
magazine).

To demonstrate that you are versatile you need to design one vector and one bitmap
graphic image, both including text.

BTEC Level2 First Diploma in Information and Creative Technology

Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics
To further demonstrate your flexibility they have asked you to design for two different
audiences, you have freedom about which audiences to choose from but you must
be able to justify how your graphic will suit those audiences.
Both of these will have to have a source table for any ready made graphics that
they insist you use (i.e. anything you download from the internet). They insist that
you use some material you find from the internet and include it in your design,
whether that is an image or a texture.

Throughout the process you should keep records of alternative designs. In a later
activity you can discuss reasons why you changed you ideas about the designs and
how you arrived at the decisions you did.

You will also need to describe why the images will be fit for audience and purpose
and Justify how this design meets the brief for your products. They will expect
references with this part of the work.
Assessment Evidence
Design documents or prototypes including description of purpose and
audience, list of ready-made assets, and illustrations of the product

Include you evidence between these lines

For my product, which is a Hot Drink Maker that makes the drinks in 5 minutes. My product
intends to make a hot drink (coffee, tea or hot chocolate) within 5 minutes so they can get out
the door and make their way to their destination with a hot drink. My logos are intended for 16 to
18 to try and get college students to use the product and my product design are for 20 to 40 as
my design shows off what they product is and the logos show off the colours.
Intended Audience of graphic described
My intended audience is for people who are in a rush for college, the age range is from 16 To
18.
My other purpose audience for the design is 20 to 40 as this might appeal more to people in
work
Purpose and Audience related to design
I have designed this product so people who want a hot drink in a rush for work, i have used
darker colours as in a report i have read before it says that research has found out that older
men and women prefer more subdued colors and are less open to experimenting with color so
the colours are more realistic colours with silvers and blacks.
List of ready made assets (Pictures you get from the Internet) with links and descriptions of
where they will be used in the designs - For my main logo, i have found the suitable logo on clip
art to insert into my design and i will go onto the internet and find a cartoon (clip art) picture of a
conveyor belt to go onto the logo under the cup. Here are links to logos i may be using. There
are no copyright issues even though i have found my images through google images as they
are clip art images released for public use, as for the background there are no copywrite issues
as i got it off a free use picture website (pixabay.com)

This is an earlier draft of the logo, this is 500 x 420 and is a png image,
i have changed the colour scheme now to green and red but this is an
early draft of what the logo might look like, i have used a square as the
base so i can fit more detail into this logo, i have used red and white for
the logo as i thought it may stand out a bit more and i have used a cup
and conveyor belt clip art logos to display what the product is about, to
improve this logo i am going to change the colours, the background
and i am going to add more details to the logo to make it look more
professional than it does now, i may also change the font so it suits
and goes with the new changes of the logo.

Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics
Explain how assets (Pictures you get from the Internet) help meet purpose and requirements of
brief
The Pictures im getting from the internet or clip art help me meet the purpose as the cup will
show the main purpose of the product and what the logo is trying to show you by saying its to
do with hot drinks and the conveyor belt picture from the internet will show you part of the
design of the product in the logo as it shows the cup going along a conveyor belt as it does in
the product that has been designed. The third picture is a wooden like background
Justify inclusion of assets (Pictures you get from the Internet)
The reason i am choosing these images as they go with the colour theme and they clearly show
what the product is about and it will help it stand out more then using a different logo.
Justify final design choices
I have decided on the 2nd logo I designed as my final logo choice as people rated it the highest
with 4 out of 5. The Logo is straight to the point and tells you what you need to know about the
product, also the colours are eye catching and it goes well with the product design. Also this
logo will be able to be put in advertisements, websites and even merchandise such as official
mugs or clothing.
When making comments about my design choice they made these comments which supports
my decision in choosing this design: I Think this idea is very good. I like the colour scheme that
has been used by Jack for this design. It is really catchy. The colours have been put together
nicely and I like the idea of this product because its colourful and i hope it will appeal to this
product target audience with these comments i made my decision to choose this design.
This website backs up what colors i have used for my logo and product advertising

green. I like the way hes drawn a cup inside
the logo.
My vote from 1 - 5 for the 2nd Design

Why I think this design does or doesn't work

this logo is in a square shape and as the

used cups in the logo and the font for the text
is also very catchy.

I think this logo is very simple compared to

the first two. It is in a triangle shape.

My vote from 1 - 5 for the 4th Design

Why I think this design does or doesn't work

I like the shape of this logo because its really

one look more better.

I like this idea a lot. It is in a cup shape which

basically goes with the hot drinks theme.

I think this idea is very good. I like the colour

scheme that has been used by Jack for this
design. It is really catchy. The colours have
been put together nicely.

uses more colours.

This logo design is good because it is related

to the product idea.

My vote from 1 - 5 for the 1st Design

Why I think this design does or doesn't work

I like the idea of this product because its

colourful and i hope it will appeal to this
product target audience.

These are the comments made about my logos overall i think the 2nd logo had the highest
rating of 4 so i have chosen this logo, i have had good feedback on this logo which means i will
choose to use this logo, also i feel this logo shows off the product the most and shows the
consumer exactly what the product is. This type of logo gives me the space to add in enough
detail to show off the product to the target audience.
Also these are the comments made about my Design, They have rated it a 4 out of 5 and was
my best design, I also think it is the best design as it clearly shows what the product is and what
it does, its simple and to the point but with enough detail to show the product off to people who
want to know more about it.

This is a Delonghi Coffee Maker, this is a popular make of coffee making

machines. Looking at my product design, mine would also do well as
they both have the same simple features as they both dispense coffee
through a nozzle at the front of the product and you also have the option
to put the milk and hot water in how you want it. We both use simple
colours like black to attract the older audience too, my product has a
conveyor belt unlike usual drink makers as you get to choose the hot
drink you please then the machine pours the hot water and the milk into

13

BTEC Level2 First Diploma in Information and Creative Technology

Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics
cup, after this is done it will finish by bringing a spoon down to stir the hot drink to how you like
it.

This is a Breville tea maker, this is simple and makes tea in quick
time, with my design, i think mine would be popular also as my
product gives you a selection of coffee, tea and hot chocolate and
makes them within 5 minutes, again this product has used simple
colours like silver and black to attract the older audience, on my
product i have decided to use the same colours of black and silver
so that it attracts my audience.

These are the two most famous coffee shop/companies

logos, they are very simple and use eye catching simple
colours like red and green, as for my logo, i have have also
chosen to use both their logo colours of red and green so it
stands out and comparisons can be made towards the
logos as they use the same colours, the reason why my
logo will work is that is it simple like the starbucks and
costa coffee logos but will have more detail in the logo so it will show off what exactly the
product is and what you are buying, i have decided to use a square shape instead of a circle as
i think it leaves more space for the information needed in my logo.
