January 8, 2013 Letter of Reference for Adam Mohning To Whom It May Concern: | have known Mr. Mohning for 12 years and have had the privilege of working with him at two very ditferent Fairfax County Public Elementary schools. During this time | have been able to ‘observe him as a classroom teacher and also as a teacher leader in both elementary schools. This letter of reference will adress his skils as an educator and dedicated individual. Mr. ‘Mohning consistently planned instruction to meet individual, group, and program needs. He selected appropriate resources, identified and communicated specific student performance ‘expectations, and documented student learning using appropriate assessment instruments, AAs hs evaluator, | observed him as the lead physical education instructor for students as young 2 those in the preschool special education program through students in sixth grade. He Consistently demonstrated a thorough understanding of his content area and also was a master at conferring with his colleagues and integrating physical education with each grade level's curriculum. He created learning experiences that made the subject matter meaningful to the students. He understood the need for differentiation and planned his lessons to meet the wide range of his students’ varied learning modalities. Mr. Mohning consistently selected, evaluated, ‘and refined his teaching methods and strategies to maximize active student participation, ‘Mr. Mohning served in leadership roles to include being on the principal's leadership team, leading both before and after school programs, and organized and was the lead contact person for the annual Walk for the Homeless. Mr. Mohning worked tirelessly with community agencies to make this program successful and each year his efforts were rewarded with even more participation and more donations for this cause. Mr. Mohning was also @ mentor for new teachers at least five times while we worked together. He was skilled at taking a zero experience teacher and guiding them throughout their first year to become a teacher who excelled in organization, planning, differentiation, and communication skils with staf, students ‘and parents, ‘Mr. Mohning modeled professional, moral, and ethical standards as well as personal integrity in all interactions. He worked in a collegial and collaborative manner with school personnel and. with the district personnel in our school division. Because of his expertise, he was constantly being asked to lead staff development in the area of physical education, Mr. Mohning is in the top five percent of educators that | have worked within my fifteen years as an administrator. | highly recommend Adam Mohning for the position he is seeking.
