Nursing has a rich heritage of ethics and morality, beginning with Florence
Nightingale; and it was not until the late 1960's that the field of bioethics began to

To prepare for this week's class read and review the following:

This chapter looks at ethical theories and principles and
describes how ethics is part of the core functions of nursing in the
community. The discussion includes the principles that have guided
bioethical decision making, various theories including virtue ethics and the
ethic of care, and the beliefs of feminist ethics. The ethics of advocacy are
applied to community health nursing.
