Dependingontheraceoftheperson,anyonecanbeaffectedbytype1diabetes.Duringmy
research,Ifoundthatthewhiteraceismorelikelytobeaffectedbydiabetes.In1997,thenumber
ofpeoplediagnosedwithdiabetesthatarewhitewas1224andwithin14yearsithasrisento2113.
Thatisa58%increase.Ifthenumberskeeprisinglikethiseveryyear,soontheworldwillbe
affectedandthefuturegenerationswillsuffermajor.

KeyFindings:
SomethingthatIfoundtobeshockingwhenresearchingdiabeteswasthatpeople
fromtheagesof4564aremorelikelytobediagnosedwithdiabetes.IwassurprisedbecauseType
1diabetesiscommonlyfoundduringchildhoodbuttheycanbediagnosedwithLADA.LADA
standsfor
atentautoimmunediabetesinadultsalsoknownas,Type1.5Diabetes.Itscommonly
foundinadultswhentheyaretoldtobediagnosedwithtype1diabetes.Ithadalsosurprisedme
whenwhitepeoplearethemostcommonforgettingdiabetesandleftmewondering:Whydontthe
moreindigentcountrieshaveahigherdiabetesrate?
