Lack of anaesthetics held back the development of surgery due to the
mass amount of pain patients was in, not many operations could be taken place. The common type of surgery was amputation, the operations had to be quick, simple and not going too deep in the body because this could have cause problems like blood lost and the patient dying out of shock and pain.
