DEFENSIVE PHILOSOPHY
A flexible, attack-oriented 4-2-5, & 3-3 Stack defense
that will focus on alignment, tackling, aggressive
pursuit, covers, and blitzes.
We will take away what the offense does best and
dictate to the game to them by playing on their side of
the line of scrimmage.
This defensive concept is very solid versus both run
and pass, and allows us to move to an 4 or 5 man front
while maintaining proper pass coverage.
The use of the 3-3 Stack allows us to use faster and
more athletic players closer to the line of scrimmage,
and when coupled with our blitz/cover/stunts package
we can exploit offensive weaknesses and tendencies
more efficiently.
This defense is flexible enough to meet a variety of
offenses during the season with very little adjustment as
to alignment and assignments.
It is our belief that this type of attack will dictate the
tempo and flow of the game.
We will be able to adjust our defense each year based
on personnel and allows us to best utilize our players to
obtain maximum results.
DEFENSIVE
PHILOSOPHY(2)
Be willing and capable to adjust
during the game and during the
season to your personnel and
your injuries.
Be simple: you must have your
players play fast and when they
think too much they cant play
fast.
Practice and coach fast during
practice and correct mistakes
off film. Dont stop and give 5
minute lectures.
DEFENSIVE
PHILOSOPHY(3)
Do the same things over and over again in
practice. Dont get bored with the details!
Practice from the first day to the last day of
the season will have very little change.
We rotate defensive Lineman often and
early to eliminate fatigue and the tempo of
fast paced offences.
Defensive Goals
1. No Loafs!!! Play hard Every Play
Way of life
2. No Busted Assignments
Concentration
3. No Penalties
Discipline
4. No big plays Be smart
Make them go all the way
Win
No Long runs (15 yards or more)
No Long Passes (25 yards or more)
Get (3) three or more Turnovers per Game
Do Not allow Touchdown after turnover.
Win on 3rd down (75% of the time)
Win on 4th down (100% of the time)
Tackling
If you cannot tackle, you cannot win! Daily
emphasis will be placed on tackling for all
defensive positions. Each position will practice
the types of tackles it will likely see during the
game. The team will also practice tackling as it
applies to the force principles in our
defensive scheme.
Turnovers
In order for a team defense to be considered
successful, a team defense must be well versed
in the ability to create turnovers and positive
situations for the team. Each defensive position
group will also emphasize creating turnovers in
each practice. If the opponent does not have the
ball, they cannot win.
Third downs
As a team defense, we must win the battle
over third downs with our opponents. We
must strive to force every series into a three
and out for our opponent. If they cannot
sustain a drive, they will be forced to give up
the ball in favorable territory for our offense.
Force the punt by winning all third downs!
