HowdoIsetupmyLinksysrouterwithCableInternetservice?

SettingupLinksysrouterswithaCableInternetservicecanbedoneeitherby
insertingtheinstallationCDormanuallyconfiguringyourrouterssettings.For
LinksysWiFiRoutersandLinksysSmartWiFiRouters,itisrecommendedtousethe
LinksysConnectsoftware.ToknowthestepsonhowtosetupaLinksysSmartWiFi

QUICKTIP:IfyouareunsureaboutthetypeofInternetconnectionyouhave,contact
yourInternetServiceProvider(ISP).

TosetupaLinksysrouter,youneedtoperformfour(4)proceduresusingthe
computerthatisregisteredtoyourISP:

i.VerifyingthatInternetconnectionisactive
ii.Connectingdevicestogether
iii.CheckingtheroutersLEDs
iv.ConfiguringaLinksysrouterforCableInternetconnection
QUICKTIP:Toreconfigureapreviouslyusedrouter,resettheroutertofactory
defaults.Todothis,pressandholdtheResetbuttonofyourrouterfor10seconds.
Theresetbuttonisusuallylocatedatthebackoftherouter.

VerifyingthatInternetconnectionisactive

ConnectthecomputertotheCablemodemusinganEthernetcable.Ifyourcomputer
isgettingInternetconnection,youmayproceedtothenextstep.Otherwise,contact
yourISP.

NOTE:SomeCablemodemshavetheirUSBportsconfiguredbytheISPtogive
yourcomputertheInternetconnection.IfthephysicalconnectionisthroughaUSB
port,youwillnotbeabletogoonlineusinganEthernetconnection.ContactyourISP

Connectacomputertoanyofthenumberedports(1,2,3or4).Ifyouareusing

Afterconnectingthedevicestogether,checkthelightsonthefrontpaneloftherouter.
EnsurethatthelightscorrespondingtotheportswheretheEthernetcablesare
connectedtoarelit.

ConfiguringaLinksysrouterforCableInternetconnection

Step1:
Accesstherouterswebbasedsetuppage.Openanywebbrowsersuchas
InternetExplorer,MozillaFirefoxorSafari.Enter192.168.1.1ontheaddress
barthenpress[Enter].

Step2:
Youwillthenbeaskedforyourlogindetails.LeavetheUsernamefieldblank
andenteradminonthePasswordfieldthenclickOK.

NOTE:Ifyouhavereceivedanerrormessageaftertypingyourrouters
password,thismeansthatthepasswordenteredisincorrect.Tryaccessingthe
routerswebbasedsetuppageagainandenterthecorrectpassword.Ifyoulost

NOTE:AMediaAccessControl(MAC)addressisauniqueidentifierpreassigned
tothenetworkadapterofthecomputer.ThisisusedbymostCableISPsfor
authenticationsosubscriberscanestablishInternetconnection.

Therefore,tosetupyourLinksysroutertoworkwithyourISP,youhavetoenablethe
MACAddressClonefeature.ThiswillallowyourISPtorecognizetherouterasthe
computerwiththeregisteredMACaddress.

Step4:
SelectEnabledthenclickonCloneMyPCsMAC.

Step5:
Click

CheckingInternetconnectionstatus

OncetheMACAddressClonefeatureisenabled,Internetstatusshouldbeactive.To
checktheInternetConnectionstatus,followthestepsbelow.

NOTE:EnsurethattheInternetConnectionTypeissettoAutomatic
ConfigurationDHCP.

YoushouldnowbeabletoaccesstheInternet.Ifnot,powercyclethemodem,the
routerthenthecomputer.
IMPORTANT:Powercyclingthecablemodemshouldbedonewithcaution.Most
CablemodemsarebundledwithCableTVandphoneconnection.SomeCable
modemsalsohavebackupbatteriesthatmaypreventitfrombeingpoweredOFF
evenifthepoweradapterisdetachedfromit.RefertoyourISPfordetailed
instructionsonpowercyclingthemodem.
