Plan of Work
Jennifer L. Stevens
Michigan Standard I-Visionary Leadership
Goal-Develop my leadership skills and my knowledge of the school improvement process.
Activity-(Leadership) As the building administrator I will chair the committee responsible for
developing, implementing, and evaluating our schools plan to improve our students writing and
reading abilities as measured by the NWEA and the state assessment implemented during the
2014-15 school year.
Activity-(Participation) I will serve as a member of the District School Improvement Team.
Timeline-These activities will begin in the spring of 2014 and will continue throughout the
2014-2015 school year.
Support Needed-The district will provide necessary release time for both myself and some
additional staff members. I will also meet regularly with the preceding building principal and
my mentor for any additional assistance.
Michigan Standard II-Cultural and Instructional Leadership
Goal-Develop my leadership mentoring abilities by modeling lessons in the classrooms of new
teachers.
Activity-(Leadership) I will serve as a mentor to all new staff.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-The district will provide necessary release time for both myself and the new
staff members. I will attend monthly new member meetings and provide additional release time
for new teachers to participate in classroom labs.
Goal-Increase my understanding of Cultures of Thinking.
Activity-(Participation) I will attend the Cultures of Thinking District Training and incorporate
some of the visible thinking techniques into my interactions with staff and students.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-The district will provide me with necessary release time to attend the Cultures
of Thinking training at Oakland Schools. I will rely on my staff to include me into their lessons
to view the visible thinking strategies in action.

Michigan Standard III-Management


Goal-Increase my knowledge of the work involved in the opening of the school year and how
day to day business is conducted.
Activity-(Leadership) I will serve as the newly appointed building administrator and will ask the
head secretary, preceding administrator and current staff to share their knowledge on various
building events and tasks. I will sit in on all before school meetings including staffing and
placement meetings.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-My preceding administrator will mentor me and allow me to rely on her to
answer questions and shadow her in the Spring of 2014. The current vice principal will
collaboratively work together with me on multiple building initiatives.
Goal-Increase my knowledge of the school budget and monitoring of expenditures.
Activity-(Leadership) I will serve as the newly appointed building administrator and will ask the
head secretary and preceding administrator to share their knowledge on the building budget,
ordering process and the differences between the building and general fund budgets.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-I will need the support of the Central Office Administrative Team as well as
other district administrators. I will need to set aside valuable time to have dialogue with the head
secretary and time needed to view and understand the current budget and all it entails.
Michigan Standard IIII-Collaboration
Goal-Increase my knowledge of the schools organizational culture that promotes open
communication with families and caregivers.
Activity-(Leadership) As the building administrator I will continue to communicate with parents
using various modes of communication. These modes will include face to face, email, skyward
message center and robo calls to continuously update families on school happenings.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-I will survey all stakeholders regarding culture, climate and communication in
our building. I will analyze the results with staff and together we will enhance our
communication and collaboration by implementing events for all stakeholders.
Goal-Include all stakeholders in school events to promote collaboration and communication.
Activity-(Leadership) I will plan many events throughout the school year that include all
stakeholders. These events will include a Kindergarten Breakfast in which new parents are
invited to learn about the culture of the building and meet the administrator, a Cookies and

Covey Family Community Circle Evening, a Cultures of Thinking Family Immersion Evening
and host monthly Parent Lighthouse Team meetings.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-I will work collaboratively with the PTO, Parent Lighthouse Team, Staff
Lighthouse Team and staff to plan events that will be meaningful and inviting for all
stakeholders.
Michigan Standard V-Ethics
Goal-Create an infrastructure that helps to monitor and ensure equitable practices.
Activity-(Leadership) As the building administrator I will frequently monitor Pearson Inform
building and district data to ensure that all students are receiving the support they deserve. I will
update all staff at monthly BIT (Building Intervention Team) Meetings so we can plan
intervention groups based on student needs.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-I will work collaboratively with the Literacy Intervention Coach, General
Education and Special Education Staff. Staff will submit monthly progress monitoring data and
together we will do data digs to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all learners.
Michigan Standard VI-Success
Goal-Advocate based on the analysis of complex causes of poverty and other disadvantages.
Activity-(Leadership) As the building administrator I will work collaboratively with Scott
Felkey from Oakland Schools. Together we will host Professional Development based on the
book, Understanding Poverty.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-Throughout the year I will communicate with Scott Felkey and we will plan
meaningful Professional Development based on the needs of the building.
Goal-I will be an effective member of the 2014-2015 Bridge Pilot District Initiative.
Activity-(Leadership) As the building administrator I will work together with three staff
members and Central Office Administrative Team to pilot the new evaluation model. Selected
staff will follow the Bridge model for observations and showing student growth. I will meet
with each staff member to develop an achievable plan that is both productive and will enhance
student growth.
Timeline-This will be an ongoing commitment as the building administrator.
Support Needed-I will attend monthly Bridge Pilot Meetings hosted by the district. We will
engage in meaningful dialogue to both change and enhance the new evaluation process. The
district together with the HVEA will use our dialogue to create a fair and equitable evaluation
system.
