Huron Valley Schools Country Oaks Elementary School A learning community dedicated to the success of all students Deborah Devers, Principal June 2014 ‘To Whom It May Concem’ It gives me great pleasure to document Jenna Stevens’ internship here at Country Oaks Elementary for the last year using the Michigan Standard for School Leaders. Jenna’s first year of the internship program was consumed with her role on the School Improvement Team and the task of organizing, developing, and articulating our school goals that align with Huron Valley Schools district goals, She voluntvered to take a leadership role on this team and present to our staff as well as the peer review process on a district level. As a school Jeadet Jenna continued to advocate for a positive, sustaining school culture which consequently lead to our inquiry and adoption of the Leader in Me school process. Jenna helped facilitate the 7-Hlabits discussion beginning with 2 few colleagues, and then with our entire staff. She would be considered one of our instrumental leaders for implementing Leader in ‘Me and encouraging her peers. Jenna volunteered to be a discussion leader during our book study of the Leader in Me. She helped articulate the habits to students, ensuring positive collaboration. On numerous occasions we would discuss one of my dilemmas, as the building principal, and Jenna would share her views from her perspective. She was always very thoughtful and helped me look at situations fiom another point of view. When my lead teacher and I were out of the building, Jonna acted on our behalf. 1 believe these experiences helped Jenna look at school leadership differently. It was a pleasure acting, as her mentor. She is compassionate and fair when dealing with students, parents, and staff. Keeping current with research in education and working with “best practices” on a daily basis is a passion of hers.
