In 1905, when Winston Churchill
was campaigning to be a Liberal MP, there
was a confrontation between him and the
young Sylvia Pankhurst. He physically
pushed her from where she was questioning
him about his support of womens right
to votes? Because the public forced him
to answer her question he gave a negative
answer about womens votes in Britain.
She held a low opinion of him throughout
her life, most especially his support of
Mussolini and fascism, against Ethiopia,
was contemptible to her. The only time
they agreed politically was when he came

Mass murder
[The] world stood [with] South Africa
to fight apartheid but it stands for impunity
for mass murder of Africans, Kenneth Roth,
director of Human Rights Watch, said on Twitter.
South Africa has shamefully flouted ICC and
domestic court to free man wanted for mass
murder of Africans, he added.
South Africa is a signatory of the ICC,
which has often been criticised for only targeting
Africa leaders.
President Bashirs plane took off
from Johannesburg and will arrive around 18:30
(1530 GMT), State Minister for Information
Yasir Yousef told AFP in Khartoum.
Bashir will address the crowds that will gather
to meet him.
The ICC indictments relate to the
western Sudanese region of Darfur, which
erupted into conflict in 2003 when black
insurgents launched a campaign against Bashirs
Arab-dominated government, complaining of
marginalisation.
Khartoum unleashed a bloody counterinsurgency using the armed forces and allied
militia.
International efforts
Assurances given?
The United Nations says 300 000
people have been killed in the conflict and
another 2.5 million forced to flee their homes.
Khartoum, however, disputes the figures,
estimating the death toll at no more than 10,000.
The ICC had called on South Africa to spare
no effort in ensuring the execution of the arrest
warrants against Bashir, 71, who seized power
in Sudan in an Islamist-backed coup in 1989.
The South African government and African
Union made no immediate comment on Bashirs
exit.
The European Union had issued a
statement saying it expects South Africa... [to
act] in executing the arrest warrant against any
ICC indictee present in the country.
The United States, which is not a participant in the
ICC, said it strongly support [ed] international
efforts to hold accountable those responsible
for genocide, crimes against humanity and war
crimes.

At the summit, Bashir attended a group
photograph on Sunday along with South African
host President Jacob Zuma and Zimbabwes
President Robert Mugabe, who is the chair of the
54-member group.
Monday is the closing day of the
summit.
Sudan officials in Johannesburg had earlier
brushed off the court case and said the South
African government had given them assurances
about Bashirs trip before the summit.

Last Wednesday, the mostly non-black voice -Gordon Cressy, Roy McMurtry, Barbara Hall,
David Crombie, and John Sewell -- spoke and
John Tory listened and acted swiftly. They called
carding something that reflects, "anger, hurt and
unrest" rather than any benefits to society. In
four days, the champion of the values of carding,
Toronto's 65th mayor, went from being its most
prominent supporter to calling it "illegitimate and
disrespectful." He added, how "it has "eroded the
public trust."
Which public? The white or the black community?
Should it even matter? Apparently, it does.
To the new Toronto Police Chief, Mark
1The flag is the symbol of
the nations unity, for it, beyond any
doubt, represents all the citizens of
Canada without distinction of race,
language, belief or opinion, declared
the Speaker of the Senate at the
Inauguration of the new flag in 1965.
On February 15, 1965 our
national flag was raised for the first
time on Parliament Hill. Canada was
just two years away from centennial
celebrations when the maple leaf
flag was made official by Royal
Proclamation. In 1996, February 15
was declared National Flag of Canada
Day and has been observed every year
since.

RCMP assistant commissioner James Malizia, left, and Insp. Paul Mellon speak in Ottawa about the arrest
of a Somali man, Ali Omar Ader (shown on the screen), for his involvement in the kidnapping of Canadian
journalist Amanda Lindhout, Friday, June 12, 2015.
IAN MACLEOD,
Analysis
OTTAWA Time and distance
are no longer a shield from Canadian
justice for foreign terrorists and other
international adversaries. Thats the
message from the RCMPs groundbreaking
arrest in Ottawa of Somali Ali Omar Ader
for the 2008 kidnapping of Canadian
journalist Amanda Lindhout in Somalia.
The RCMP announced the arrest
Friday morning, describing Ader as one
of the main negotiators for the Islamist
group that seized Lindhout and Australian
photographer Nigel Brennan in August of
2008. Ader, 37, came to Canada a few days
ago and was arrested Thursday.
Lindhout and Brennan were
released from more than a year of
captivity in November 2009, after their
families paid a ransom. The RCMP had
been working on a criminal investigation
since Lindhout was kidnapped, involving
undercover operations, wiretaps and other
surveillance, much of it taking place in
Somalia.
While a direct link to terrorism
is so far tangential Somali Islamic
extremists were allegedly behind it, but
Ader is charged with the non-terrorist
offence of hostage-taking the point is
all about terrorism: Canada now appears
capable and serious about defending its
citizens and national security through nonmilitary action, no matter how far-flung in
space and time.
Consider the enormous operational
difficulties and presumed dangers
investigators and undercover agents would
have faced in discovering and collecting
hard prosecutorial evidence against Ader

By William Davison,
Governments critics weigh options after
ruling party landslide leads to loss of faith
in ballot box while case of Zone 9 bloggers
discourages free speech
On the very day Ethiopias ruling party
celebrated another crushing electoral
victory, a young blogger on trial under
anti-terrorism laws in an Addis Ababa
courtroom lashed out at the authorities.
You yourself should respect the law,
said Abel Wabella, 28, from the Zone 9
blogging group, after judges denied him
the chance to protest against the tortuous
pace of legal proceedings that began more
than a year ago.
The case of nine journalists and bloggers
arrested in 2014 has been decried byhuman
rights groups as an example of Ethiopian
authorities crackdown on dissent. The
nine were detained on allegations that they
worked for foreign human rights groups or
had used social media to incite violence.
Prosecutors have yet to present any
evidence of illegal activity against the
Zone 9 defendants, who say they merely
exercised their constitutional right
to freedom of expression. Wabellas
frustration is symptomatic of a generation
of politically engaged Ethiopians who have
no faith in the ballot box and are wary of
expressing dissent through other channels
in a country that is regularly criticised by
rights groups for stifling basic freedoms.
The latest landslide at the ballot box
means that Ethiopia will be ruled until
at least 2020 by the Ethiopian Peoples
Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF),
a former rebel group, which took power
in 1991 by unseating a military regime.
All 442 constituencies announced so far
have gone to the ruling coalition, giving
them a majority in the 547-seat parliament.
Opponents of the government despair
at this stagnant environment, said one
government critic on social media, who
did not want to be identified for fear of
being harassed by the authorities. If Zone
9 is not tolerated then it seems there is no
political space to engage, he said.
The opposition lost in all 23 constituencies
in Addis Ababa last month, including the
one seat they had won in 2010. Local
newspaper reports suggest the EPRDF
increased its share of the popular vote by
10% to 64%.
Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegns
government says it has delivered economic
development and stability, but critics
maintain this has come at the cost of
human rights.

Adonay Zekarias was convicted
on Tuesday of first-degree murder in the
stabbing death of Nighisti Semret.
Semret, 55, was found stabbed
to death on a rainy morning on Oct. 23,
2012 as she walked down a Cabbagetown
laneway following a night shift a nearby
hotel.
She was stabbed seven times.
Court heard that Semret fought her
attacker, getting blood under her nails.
"Justice was served today," Crown
Attorney Mary Humphrey said.
The jury came back with a guilty
verdict within four hours. The conviction
comes with an automatic life sentence.
"My client and his family are
very disappointed with the verdict," said

While the Montessori Method is
regarded as one of the greatest methods for
teaching pre-school and elementary children,
one finds that it also works wonders in
establishing a greater sense of confidence
while engaging patients in activities that
THEY find rewarding. With this unique
training under a PSW's (Personal Support
Worker) belt, they are not only equipped for
dealing with the challenges of Dementia in
their patients, but for the challenges of every
day life.
Canada cannot seem to make up its
mind regarding unemployment rates, with
part time jobs enduring the biggest fall of the
past four years, with 66.5 thousand jobs lost.
To offset this, full-time jobs have gradually
been climbing, with 46.9 thousand full time
jobs added. Although more people are out
of work, more full-time jobs are being filled
up. This means that thousands of part-time
workers, some of whom hope to find a fulltime job are simply out of luck.
Fortunately, there is one industry
in particular that has maintained a healthy
growth rate, with the only requirements for
entry being a basic high school education.
This industry is none other than healthcare,
and there has been a stark rise in employment
and job offerings throughout the past year.
Due to a compound of both
advancements in modern medicine and the
baby boomer generation reaching old age,
there have been dozens of colleges and
hospitals who've made a name for themselves
in the past few years. One in particular
espouses an older method of teaching that
has yet to be seen outside of that restrictive
barrier; the Montessori Method. Peak
College, located at Sheppard and Bathurst,
has taken giant steps in this industry, and

Perhaps the greatest reason to
become a Personal Support Worker is
the tangible difference you can make in
your community. On top of the previously
mentioned benefits, there is not only an aging
population to account for, but an aging caretaker population. In Canada, one finds that
the majority of Personal Support Workers are
aged 50 to 59-years-old, and thus will be
retiring soon (CRNCC & PSNO, 2009).
Consider the possibility that
someone might wish to work more intimately
in the medical field, however lacks the
qualifications to do so. All one needs to
secure a job as a Personal Support Worker is
a 1 semester diploma from a certified college,
lasting over 26 weeks; to be eligible, Peak
College requires a bit more, with a personal
interview and minor admission test required.
As a result, new colleges such as Peak have
made tremendous waves in the world of the
Personal Support Worker, and graduates find
themselves set to launch even further towards
their hearts desires.
