Water Resources Issues Math Aspects

PART I - Modeling
1. How can we model water consumption? Example: is there a function
that relates water consumption vs. population? How can we model
water resources do these resources remain relatively constant, do
they decrease or increase?
2. How can we model the patterns of water consumption? Is most of it
used for washing? Cooking? Irrigation? Do the patterns of consumption
vary by region? Climate? Cultures? How can we model usable vs.
wasted water patterns?
PART II - Technology
3. What technologies exist for recycling water? What are their
efficiencies? What are their costs? Are there any predictions of how
these efficiencies and costs may change in the future? What is/are the
effect(s) of recycling technologies on the rest of the environment?
4. What technologies are for creating new sources of usable water, e.g.
desalinization? What are their costs and efficiencies? What is the
outlook for their future? How would these technologies interact with
the environment?
5. What are the issues in water transportation? Costs and efficiencies?
Future trends?
PART III Thinking Outside the Box
6. What are some blue sky solutions proposed for alleviating water
shortages? How realistic are they? (For example, desalinization is not
blue sky it exists and it is working).
