To whom it may concern,
L write this letter in support of Ms, Jean Laurance as a candidate for a teaching position
in your district. [ highly recommend Jean as an excellent teacher and teacher-leader.
Jean is an innovator in the classroom, and is known for keeping up with the latest
research about teaching and learning, applying that research in the classroom, and
using data to determine how to make adjustments and improvements. She runs an
inquiry-based classroom, and has worked with our building RtI coach to incorporate
vocabillary and literacy instruction into science lessons.
As Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, I have the opportunity every
week to visit classrooms, and I Took forward to the times that { am able to visit with
Jean and her students. Without exception, her students are engaged in focused learning
activities each time I visit her classroom, Jean is effective at teaching content and skills
toa wide range of learners, from some of our highest achieving students (in the AP
Chemistry program) to struggling learners (as a volunteer tutor every day in our
Academic Support Center),
Jean has taken on many leadership roles in our building, both formally and informally.
Over the past three years, she has taught every level of Chemistry (Advanced, Honors,
and AP), and she is our Chemistry Team Leader (our departments are organized
around the Professional Learning Teams model). ‘This year, she also taught a section of
Geology. Jean is a member of our school’s AVID site team, and at the district level she
participates in the Subject Area Committee for Chemistry and helped write the district
common assessments for this area. She is well-respected by her peers, and for the past
‘two years has participated in monthly leadership workshops with other teachers and
administrators as part of our Schoo! Improvement efforts. She is also one of our
building representatives at the Alliance for College Readiness meetings at Elgin
Community College.
Ms. Jean Laurance has made a great difference in our schoo! in a short period of time; 1
am sad to see her go. If you'd like me to elaborate on any of my comments, please do
not hesitate to call or email me at the contact information below.
Sincerely,
