I/E.

UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS - AKINTUNDE OJO LIBRARY - NIGHT

An archaic windowless building adorned with suspended fluorescent
lights and a wide encircling terrace outside with sets of ripped
rubber chairs conjoined to desks.
Dare and Adaeze make out voraciously on one of the sets. Their
books and personal computers on the Formica tabletop.
Few other students traverse past in the background.
Dare and Adaeze pull back from each other.
So?

ADAEZE

(Beat)
Did you like it?
DARE
For a last kiss, yes.
Adaeze, disappointed, turns to her computer. A pregnant pause
between them.
DARE (CONT'D)
(Imploringly)
Addy... Eze really likes you.
ADAEZE
Are you lobbying for him now? Dear best
friend.
DARE
Look, if he finds out he'll never
forgive me.
ADAEZE
Why? Do you see his name branded on my
forehead?
DARE
He saw you first. That's how this works!
ADAEZE
That's how this works?
Dare throws hands in surrender. No point bickering with a brick
wall.
ADAEZE (CONT'D)
You know, I still don't understand.
What is it about you?
(Dare, puzzled)
Everybody thinks you're a better
friend to Eze, but we know that's not

true. Or is this your way of pretending

to care about him?
DARE
That's not fair.
ADAEZE
Isn't it? We all seem to care about you
more than you care about us, Dare. We're
the ones always chasing you. Looking
for your company. Trying to be -DARE
(Snaps)
Addy, you know how I feel about you.
ADAEZE
Then tell me.
DARE
There's no going back if I do.
ADAEZE
We're well past going back. You just
don't see it yet.
Dare, without words.
