Diary entry describing living conditions
(Where do you live? who do you live with?
Do you have any family? Are you married?
Are you in good health?)
Dear diary, the living conditions are terrible,
the water is contaminated my wife and kids
are sick. My daughter has cholera. It is very
hard to sleep at night because of all the
noise that the people inside my room make. I
share a room with 15 other people. I dont
have a bed to sleep on so I have to sleep on
the ground.
Diary entry describing working conditions
(How many hours a day do you work? What
is the health and safety like? Are there
children working? Have been there any
injuries at work?)
Dear diary, I have just started working at an
iron factory. I work for 16 hours a day every
week and get paid 5 shillings a week. The
working conditions are hazardous people
were losing fingers and toes every day.
There are kids working in the factory and
they were climbing into machines to fix them
without any shoes.
Diary entry describing life before and after
the Industrial revolution. (What was your job
before the Industrial revolution? Has life got
easier or harder? How has your town
changed? What has been built?)
Dear diary, before the revolution I worked on
a farm with my family. Work was a lot easier
and there was a lot more space. The field
was green the water was clear and the air
was fresh. Life has got harder since then.
They talked me into selling my farm so they

could build a factory on it. There are houses

appearing everywhere and a lot of shops are
being built. Roads are being built and smoke
is filling the air.

New Technologies

Diary entry describing new technologies.

(What new machines have been built? Who
built them? Are you using any of the new
technologies in the work place?)
Dear diary,
Theyve introduced some new technology in
the factory. Henry cort has designed 2 new
iron manufacturing processes rolling and
puddling. Im using these processes in the
factory because it is 15 times faster than
hammering with a trip hammer.
