Ipad Proposal May 2013

Why increase student exposure to

technology?
Todays students are born into a digital
world. Students of the 21st century, in order
to compete in the global marketplace, will be
expected to be savvy in technology. In
addition, technology, without doubt, is engaging to the learner and
can enhance lessons and productivity as -a teacher.
Mobile technology is prevalent in the world of the 21st century
learner:
78% of parents surveyed have a mobile device; 52% said their
child uses it.
24% own an eReader and 11 percent of their children use the
device.
46% own a tablet and 34% of their children use it.
(Parent survey, eClassroom News, May 2013 Most Parents Support
Mobile Learning Devices)
Why

iPads and mobile technology?

Low cost
Speed and ease
Most apps are free or relatively inexpensive
Interactive touch screen
Keyboarding skills not a hindrance
Solid hard drive/durable
Can be used right at students desks no need for labs,
additional tables, etc.
Student engagement and ownership

Why get them into the hands of teachers first?

As more teachers start using technology for constructing valuable
learning spaces for themselves, they will then understand the power
and potential of those concepts for their students. We need
teachers to become models for our young people, and to make that
engagement in the information world more transparent.
