In general, the zinc coating must be regular and smooth, without major zinc accumulations, zinc drops or "zinc runners". E L All surface defects in the steel including cracks, surface laminations, laps and folds eg shall be removed in accordance with BS 4360 or equivalent. Drilling, cutting, a welding, forming and final fabrication of unit members and assemblies shall be : completed, before the structures are galvanized. The surface of the steelwork shall be free from weld splatter, paint, oil, grease and similar contaminations. lke The welding operations on galvanized parts shall take into account the necessary technical recommendations to prevent the weakening of the weld by the inclusion of zine. Areas of the galvanized coating damaged in any way, shall be restored by: 1) Cleaning the area of any weld slag and thoroughly wire brushing to give a clean surface, 2) The application of two coats of zinc-tich paint. After fixing, bolt heads, washers and nuts shall receive two coats of zinc-rich paint where necessary. No painting will be applied on galvanized items. a
