Virtual Anthology Proposal

May 28, 2015

For my virtual anthology project, I would like to write about Civil Rights and Black
Liberation; this is found in chapter eight of American Protest Literature. I did not find
this assigned reading in the syllabus, and I really enjoy learning about the Civil
Rights Movement. I plan to use the text included in American Protest Literature as
well as researching a few historical movements and events. The historical content
will help my reader to connect the works of literature with the events of the past.
This topic is important for readers to read today, because racism is still an issue in
todays society. Although segregation was an issue of the past, it is important that
people today know the history behind what happened. As a society if we are open
and knowledgeable, we can be sure that there is not another era of discrimination
and segregation based on race. By studying literature and not just history, one can
learn about different aspects and points of view during the time period. Many of the
literary work done on the Civil Rights Era was written by people who lived during
that time period.
Following is a rough estimate of the sources I am going to try and use for my paper.
I do not know specifically if these will work, but from what I have thought about in
my head right now, they seem like they might.
