Jessica student taught in my first grade classroom at Grand Prairie School in Frankfort School District 157c during the spring of 2015. During Jessica’s time in my classroom, she exemplified high levels of competence in planning and instruction, content mastery, and discipline, Aligned with the Common Core Standards, Jessica's lessons were always extremely engaging. Her knowledge of the standards allowed her to design lessons that met the diverse needs of the students in the classroom. She effectively used technology to facilitate instruction. Her lessons included hands on, interactive learning as well as Kagan style cooperative learning activities. Jessica also created many formative assessments that aligned to the standards. Jessica was especially aware of her students’ interests, strengths, and needs. She used formative assessments to analyze students’ progress and guide her instruction in her flexible math, reading, and writing groups. Jessica used her students’ interests when planning for her lessons. Her classroom presence was one of caring, encouragement, and humor. Throughout her time at Grand Prairie, Jessica exuded professionalism. She wrote weekly newsletters to all parents, answered daily parent notes, and attended all staff meetings. Jessica also attended several IEP meetings.
