I have had the honor and privilege of working with Melissa for the past ten years, serving as the building administrator of Village Oaks Elementary. Melissa exemplifies leadership. She continuously strives to make a difference in the classroom, at a building level and within the district. For the past two years, Melissa served as the Principal in charge during my absence. She does an outstanding job. Her relationships with students, parents and staff enable her to easily rectify any situation that arises and work through problems using her excellent communication strategies, I am very confident of her decision making skills and ability to run the building during my absence. ‘Melissa is a member of our building Crisis Committee. She attends all meetings and is a key contributing member on our team. She works with the team to plan our reactions and build a plan to prepare for various crisis situaiions. Melissa also serves on our March is Reading month committee. She is a key planner for our March activities and serves as our liaison to work with the Novi Community Library events. Melissa was a member of our building Social Committee, I Pad Updates Committee and managed our building Twitter and Facebook accounts, She has also been the Chairperson of our Continuous School Improvement Team numerous times, This year, Melissa took on the task of heading up our Student Leadership team based on Covey's Seven Habits. She created a student application process and worked on projects with our team throughout the year. Melissa monitors our building AR and Star accounts as well as NWEA testing, She supports all staff with their technology needs. Melissa accomplishes all of this while teaching full time in the Media Center. She is a highly effective teacher and continuously makes a difference for students, She knows every child's reading level and inspires all of ‘them to find literature they are passionate about as @ reader Novi Community School District Susan K. Jiwww novi Melissa has also worked at a district level to mentor a new Media Specialist and other staff members using Marzano's iObservation Model, She also has designed a tiered intervention model based on the work of the district MTSS team which met all last year. Melissa works continually to support our students, our school and the district. She is an outstanding leader and as an educator has worked continuously to gain the experience needed to bea very successful administrator. Melissa's passion, experience, excellent communication skills and tremendous work ethic will make her an asset to any school district.
