Apart from making sure that the technology landscape is contemporary and
keeps enabling the business without interruptions, there are a few more areas
which would be in focus in 2015 for us. Mobility is one such area owing to the
increasing proportion of the workforce on the move. Related technologies such
as MDM and concepts like BYOD would follow once the mobility ecosystem starts
maturing. Automation in research and on the shop floor - with technologies like
Digital Manufacturing will be another focus area. Organizations global journey
will continue and IT would play a key role in the same. Another area which would
be in focus during 2014-15 will be using analytics in a manner which can add
value to business, not only reactively but also in a predictive fashion. Initiatives in
analytics would be very different from the way traditional analytics are performed
and would be more from a perspective of helping businesses in charting out future
strategies rather than helping in resolving routine issues. We will also continue
our focus on cloud technologies, social media including ORM, strengthening
information security landscape, IT processes and e-learning.
After having established the ERP setup recently, the priority is automatically set to
satisfy the decision makers using a suitable Business Intelligence application and
through appropriate strategies. Setting up a Disaster Recovery setup is a compliance
to be fulfilled in the financial services industry. The setup available in the legacy
environment has to be re-established as per the new application/hardware landscape.
Moving the existing data center to the cloud to reap the obvious benefits, is also on
cards. Implementing mobility based applications is the de facto agenda of all CIOs and
I am not an exception to it, and the devices & approaches are being deliberated. A good
amount of concentration is going to be on the people & process collaboration front,
using the right tools & technologies.

the screen, and the `Quick settings menu was placed near
the right edge of the screen, all accessible from swiping
down from the top near the respective edges. That made
it pretty comfortable to use a large tablet, to the extent
that single-handed operation was practically possible.
Now since these two pull-downs have been combined into
the centre, one really needs to stretch the thumb to reach
the menu from either of the left/right sides, and the only
way one-handed operation can be deemed to be practical is if the tablet is not in your hands but lying flat down
on some surface and you are controlling it from the top
(like a table-top touch-screen). However, smaller screens
and smartphones shouldnt have this problem (and even
among large tablets, one can always use the tablet in a
portrait orientation instead of a landscape orientation to
make the menu more `accessible). The point is, Google
appears to have `undid its design change which made
Honeycomb ideal for tablets (wherein UI elements were
focused on being close to the borders, within easy reach
when dealing with a large screen). With Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean and KitKat, things were still practically
usable. However, now this is a big chink in the armor for
large screens, in the name of convergence and `providing a
similar experience across all devices. And do note that the
menu is still at the same central location if you access it
from the lock screen. It will be worth seeing how the next
iteration of popular large-screen tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab handle this, since the Nexus 9 which has already
released, runs stock Android.

inch compared to iPads and iPhones. So purely in terms
of numbers, yes, that amounts to becoming superior to
the Retina display. Frankly speaking, at that scale, the
difference between two adjacent pixels is imperceptible
to the untrained human eye. However, it is ironic that
because of Androids fragmentation, Googles own Nexus
devices are falling behind, just because of the race in
numbers without addressing the underlying problem.
Take the absolutely new Nexus 6 for instance, which,
as of the time of going to press, doesnt even have a
confirmed availability date in India. At nearly 6 inches of
screen space, it offers a resolution of 2560x1440. Now,
since it is after all, a `Nexus (and also because of the
astronomical pricing compared to earlier Nexus models),
one would assume that this is the best what Android can
do (in a smartphone/phablet). Wrong. The same resolution is available in a marginally smaller screen in the form
of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and ironically, the LG G3
(which is not so new) beats both of them by offering
the same resolution with just about 5.5 inches of screen
space, in spite of being cheaper than the other two! The
point is, marginal improvements are being made in terms
of pure numbers, the screens (and GPUs) are becoming
more power-hungry to drive that many pixels, and as a
result, resource-intensive games which have consolequality graphics (e.g. Real Racing 3) look `less amazing
on a Nexus 10 than they do on an iPad 3, even though
the iPad 3 has less in terms of pure number of pixels. One
of the logical reasons? iOS developers know precisely
what the underlying hardware will be for their apps and
dont need to `compromise, doesnt matter if in terms of
pure numbers it packs less of a punch than its counterpart Android hardware.
Android Lollipop brings with it OpenGL ES 3.1 and
Android extension pack. Google claims that this will `bring
22

mobility
Android to the forefront of mobile graphics putting it on
par with desktop and console class performance. However,
in India, we instead have Google pushing Android One as a
`common minimum level of experience on low-cost devices and as a result, developers wanting to take advantage
of new improvements in Lollipop have to bring down their
`targets in order to accomodate such a broad spectrum,
regardless of whether they are building a console-quality
game or a multimedia player wanting to take advantage
of the new support for UHD 4K video playback in Lollipop
(since all Android One devices are also supposed to be
eligible for an update to Lollipop).
Conclusion
There is much more to Android 5.0 than the changes
described here, especially under-the-hood changes made
to networking, the new Android runtime, 64-bit support,
USB audio, a host of camera features, etc. However, as
far as first impressions are concerned, the above ones
seem to be what can make-or-break the user experience
of Android 5.0 in India. The broad range of changes made
in this version leave no doubt that this is indeed the
biggest update to Android so far, and its too difficult to
point a single `killer change which can turn the tables
either way on its own for Lollipop to succeed or fail. Yes,
the Lollipop is sweet, but some people will still want to
add artificial sweeteners!

oday, India is at the cusp of digital transformation, with the growing internet and smartphone
penetration as well as other trends like cloud,
big data and social witnessing a massive uptake.
Advancements in newer trends like the Internet of Things
also means consumers will have increased connectivity
across their devices, gadgets and machines and with this
connectivity comes the potential for a whole new range of
security risks.
Will the Internet of Things usher in a new wave of
security attacks? As countries move towards their smart
nation master plans, what role will Big Data play? Whats
next in the mobile security space? The coming year will
pose a lot more issues that will affect individual consumers,
businesses and governments, resulting in a struggle
between those wishing to create new threats and exploit
vulnerabilities and those looking to protect against them.
1) Mobile devices will become even more attractive
targets: Mobile devices will continue to become a
target for cyber attackers especially as they store up
a trove of personal and confidential information and
are switched on all the time, making them the perfect targets. Mobile devices will become even more
valuable as mobile carriers and retail stores transi28

nected nature of a global internet and cloud infrastructures, cross-border flow of data is unavoidable
and needs to be appropriately addressed. 2015 will
see the evolution of the Personal Data Protection Act
especially in the Asia Pacific region as it makes a real
impact in peoples lives, towards ensuring that individuals and organizations have the right mindset with
regards to online security and cybercrime prevention.
8) Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) will continue
to rise as a threat: Year 2014 saw an increase in Unix
servers being compromised and their high bandwidth
being used in DDoS attacks. The motivation of the
attacker in this case varies widely, with hacktivism,
profit, and disputes being the main reasons. Considering the ease of conducting large DDoS attacks,
Symantec expects that the DDoS trend will continue
to grow.
9) User behavior will take center stage as security
moves beyond passwords: With the password system
complexity constantly under attack by cybercriminals, security vendors and providers have constantly
been facing challenges on providing users a seamless
experience. Adopting multi-factor authentication
techniques such as one-time passwords or iris and
fingerprint scanning are alternate safeguard methods, but they may not be the safest options. The true
solution to protect valuable information lies in users
behavior, which is ultimately how we can prevent
our personal online assets and identities from being
compromised.
10) The front lines of cybersecurity will be
strengthened by closer industry partnerships and
collaborations: The security industry together with
telecommunication providers and governments from
around the world are joining forces to beat the war
on cybercrime. In 2015, attackers will continue to
look for new vulnerabilities so that they can hack
the planet. Open source platforms will continue to
address these vulnerabilities through greater industry
coordination, collaboration and response.
While the increasing flow of data from smart
devices, apps and other online services is enticing for
cybercriminals, there are steps businesses and consumers
can consider to better protect themselves. No doubt,
increased mobility and Internet of Things will enable
users to take the next big leap in technology adoption,
but it will also give rise to extreme vulnerable scenarios
where both the user and the data will be compromised
to a great extent. The need of the hour is to create a
strong framework of policies and regulations to secure
the internet enabled infrastructure of government,
organization, household and even individuals.

Over the years, the Indian desktop PC motherboard market has truly evolved. Today,
we see vendors coming out with a wide range of products designed for specific
user segments. Customers are empowered with better choices including the Doit-Yourself (DiY) options as well. Gaming community is also growing and so vendors
need to spruce up their post-sales set up to gain competitive advantages
Conclusion
To sum it up, 2015 will witness a trend of an increasing
tribe of matured, knowledgeable set of end-users,
belonging to different segments, having different
requirements and interests. The users will be willing to
pay more for quality products and world-class services.
Vendors have to realize and acknowledge this fact and
focus on their sales, marketing and service initiatives for
this small, yet fast-growing community.

Thou Shalt
Digitally Transform!
Digital transformation is changing the way we do anything in our lives, and therefore cant be ignored
by anyone. We explain why along with concrete case studies of how some companies and govt.
departments have already embarked on a digital transformation journey
he main thing to understand about Digital Transformation is that it isnt just one more technology trend for everyone
to learn and follow. Its a transformation in the way businesses operate, the way govt. imparts services to its citizens, and
the way we all lead our lives. Whether were working, playing, traveling, learning, or doing anything else, theres an ample
amount of technology involved in everything we do today, and whats more, it will only continue increasing further.
The key enablers of this transformation are social, mobile, analytics, cloud computing, and now the Internet of Things.
Enough has been said about the disruption caused by these technologies, so well avoid repeating that in this story.
Instead, well initially focus on the impact of digital transformation (the theory bit) followed by a few case studies of
how various organizations and the govt. are undergoing digital transformation.
One thing to remember while you go through these case studies is that digital transformation is not a one-time process,
but a continuous journey of embracing new technologies and integrating them with existing ones seamlessly to enhance
performance, change business models, and create new ones.
Digital Transformation is therefore not a trend to be ignored, but to be embraced. The pace at which you embrace
depends upon your current IT setup and the pace of digital disruption happening in your industry.
Its not a question therefore of if, but when to digitally transform, and this year will probably mark the turning point
of digital transformation.
Have a very happy digital new year!

Digital Transformation:
The Journey
has Just Begun
When we set out to find live examples of digital transformation
amongst Indian enterprises, we discovered that the journey has just
begun for most and the deployments are highly fragmented
that we approached, offered us to cover their own transformation and the reason I say good because until a few
years ago, we used to joke about the lack of technology
adoption in technology companies in India, us included,
but it now seems that most of them are using technology
effectively. The vendors were unable to discuss case studies
of some of these Indian digitally transformed organizations
due to NDAs and confidentiality clauses. I havent figured
why such information needs to be kept confidential.
The older big daddies of business will need to rapidly
adopt digital technologies to grow, else some of the new
generation organizations could take the lead. They would
need to do what these new kids on the block are doing
be more agile, deploy more and better technology and
hire younger folks to bring about an overall change in
the way they operate. I recently read a piece which says
Flipkart is amongst the worlds five biggest tech start ups
(http://tinyurl.com/pkl98pq). They arent really a tech
company, they are a retailer that is offering all new world
conveniences to the consumer and thats why they score
and continue to grow.
It is possibly the inertia and lack of vision of the
traditional setups that they couldnt even envisage this
model of business. Well, they now know how to do it
and the available technologies can help them make
the transformation. They will need to rapidly transform
themselves to stay competitive.
We would like to aid and facilitate the journey of
progressing business and lives using technology. We will
continue to cover this area on a regular basis and bring
stories that will encourage others to adapt to these
technologies. Should you have or know of a story of digital
transformation (I once again define it as adoption of digital
technology of existing organizations to progress their
business and enhance their customer experiences), please
share it with us and we would be happy to cover more and
more of those in this year.
Heres wishing all of you a Very Happy, Blessed and
Peaceful 2015.

Transforming

Digital Business
Transforming to become a digital business requires focus beyond technology, leadership beyond
the CIO and technology beyond SMAC
- Kapil Dev Singh, Founder-Coeus Age
What to transform?
Leadership in contemporary businesses needs to address
three important questions related to their digital journey1. What is the industry activity around digital and how is
the organization responding to it?
2. What business capabilities digital technology is creating, what is their relevance in the competing landscape
and are they being leveraged adequately or not?

call, negotiates and closes. All this without a sweaty hand
shake, expensive travel and anxious moments at the
prospects reception. Neat! Maybe a bit of an exaggeration
for sales people selling high value specialist solutions. So
lets throw in a meeting or two (with tickets for travel being
booked online) saving precious time. Still, with technology
enabling the sales process, the bang for the buck gets
bigger for the seller and buyer alike. Technology is no
longer just an enabler to business, it IS the business. With
digital technology its no longer batch processing in an
uncertain environment, it is real time, with real solutions
based on real data and with real benefits.
For the marketing manager, technology means fewer
time delays and migraines. No more visits to the graphic
designers or printers as collaterals and communications
are designed and distributed from under his nose and from
within his team. Popular software applications provide for
making or editing slick collaterals ahead of schedules. Its
soft copy all the way to all in the decision making panel in

In the retail space, online giants will continue to

he insatiable need to remain agile and competitive has created a digitized environment with innumerable technologies and applications driving
the operations of a company. These technologies
have a pervasive influence on everything, from customer
experience and enhanced productivity to improved management decisions. Ernst & Young captured five megatrends
that are driving digital transformation across industries
namely, smart mobility, social networking, cloud computing,
big data analytics, and accelerated technology adaptation.
The convergence of these trends has driven an explosion in
the number of endpoints in an enterprise, improving access
to corporate information, both on-premise and outside the
corporate network.
Digitization creates new opportunities not only
for enterprises but also for cybercriminals. Year 2014
saw financial institutions, retail chains and large media
companies at the receiving end of large-scale data
breaches. According to the Lloyds Risk Index 2013, cyber
risks have become the #1 technological risk and #3 business
risk surpassing other business risks such as inflation and
rapid technological changes.

The Solution
All of this led to an innovative idea of implementing an
Enterprise Social Networking (ESN), so as to have a single
platform to address all communication and collaboration
needs. It was meant to handle communications within a
team, across teams, to a group or to the entire organization
and private communications as well. It was meant to address any other aspects possible with e-mails, like sending
a service request to a support team and so on. The shift
had to be structured so as to increase business efficiency.
The solution was code-named as Octopus and it
replaced internal e-mails with interactive conversations,
Transformation Summary
Before deployment: Too many silos within and
across teams, due to over-dependency on email,
phone calls, and mailing lists for all communication.
What was deployed: An Enterprise Social Network
was build using IBM Connections to provide
common platform for all communication, streamline
workflows, and encourage employees to ideate.
After Deployment: Email replaced as internal
communication medium; All email mailing lists
and 98% individual emails removed; productivity
increased by 8%, 20% reduction in service/workflow
times; Attrition reduced by 4% - thanks to increased
engagement caused by people culture; 75%
reduction in Employee on-boarding.

engaging employees with a people friendly culture, fuelling
ideation and innovation within the enterprise. Its centralized management and easy integration with MIS resulted in
360 degree views.
Octopus integrated people with data, knowledge,
projects, customers, managers and processes to create a
one-stop-shop for employees.
Tech Used
IBM Connections was used as the Social OS, and Polaris
built modular socio-business apps on it, weaved for a universal employee workspace on web, mobile (iOS, Android,
Blackberry) and tablets. They allow private, community
(team) based and public collaboration, which is completely
interactive with live notifications and document sharing.
A few capabilities that are part of ESN are:
Social Rooms: These are customizable team workspaces
with 360 degree views to map to the organization, or create online distribution groups for mass announcements
/ broadcasts. It augments the communities into Social
Rooms which aggregate social apps, custom apps based on
MIS or hybrid apps.
Social Flows: This is meant to simplify services or
operational workflows by making them conversational
and interactive, augmented with stages and structure. Any
team may link to another team simply by adding a team
room or writing on their service wall.
People Culture: The application brings in a people culture by engaging employees with visibility, empowerment
and credit points based appreciation. One can run org-wide
structured ideation drives, and encourage social interests
with Common Interest Circles.
My Private Wall: Just like in regular social media networks, this one also enables employees to converse/share
privately with people or rooms, send system messages for
self, have 1:1 chats, VCs or Webinars.

anufacturing companies are gradually beginning to realize that they need to achieve
even greater efficiencies than what ERP
software can provide, which is where M2M
integration with software comes in. Thats exactly what
UFLEX Industries did when it discovered that there was no
other way to reduce errors and in-efficiencies caused by
manual entries by humans.
The company is a globally renowned player in the flexible packaging industry, manufacturing polyester chips,
Films, coated films, laminates, etc. Its Film Division has 6
global process/manufacturing locations in USA, Poland,
Egypt, UAE, Mexico and India. The process plants generate
data on the process parameters and batch input/output,
like Film Roll length, height, and width, among other things.
Only after this data is fed into the ERP on a continuous
basis can the rolls be used for further slitting and process
operations. The processing plants are manned by different
country nationals and employee attrition is a common problem there. Moreover, their focus and priority is on generating more process output rather than updating data in the
ERP system. This results in a huge data updation backlog,
causing in-efficiencies in the entire operating chain. It had
a cascading effect on other operations, causing delays in
logistics, further material processing and finally customer
delivery times, due to missed shipments and others.
- Anil Chopra
Transformation Summary
Before Deployment: Process parameters from 6
global plants were fed manually into the ERP system,
leading to human error, backlogs, and delays in
logistics.
What was Deployed: M2M integration between
plans and ERP server to update the data
automatically.
After Deployment: Operating chain efficiency in
terms of the time to dispatch improved by at least
15%; Manpower freed in three shifts from data
updation to more productive tasks; ERP fed with
accurate data with no human errors.
As a part of the IT initiative, the company decided to
implement more M2M integration (Machine to Machine) in
the plants generating data in XML, which was integrated to
the ERP Server on an automated basis and also generated
alerts accordingly, based on the status of the server.
So if the server was overloaded, the plant would locally cache the files and as soon as the plant generated
the production batch data, it was updated in the ERP. All
this was on a real time basis (<2 seconds) and with zero
manual involvement.
A robust error tracking algorithm was put in place to
ensure that if errors, like generated file corruption, file
duplication, file format or data missing, network MPLS
interruption (data center is globally centralized while
plants are in far-away geographies), there were retries
and alert emails.
The benefits gained as a result of this M2M integration
were phenomenal. The operating chain efficiency in terms
of the time to dispatch improved by at least 15%, and the
manpower was freed in three shifts from data updation
to more productive tasks. Besides all these benefits, the
icing on the cake was that the ERP was fed with accurate
data with no human errors (because everything was
completely automated).

he digital economy is forcing most organizations to re-align their business processes, establish new ones,
and explore emerging technologies to reach out to the digitally empowered customer. Its very different from
deploying traditional technologies, which falls within the comfort zone of most CIOs. The new emerging
technologies require business innovation rather than technology innovation, which is a new domain for most CIOs,
because in addition to understanding technology, they must also be understnad what the CEO and other CxOs want,
and then provide the right strategic advice for digital transformation.
How should CIOs lead this change? What sort of competencies do they need to build up to lead digital
transformation in their organization? Kapil Dev Singh explains this beautifully in his latest book. CIOs would find it
extremely useful to understand why they need digital transformation, what sort of leadership style do they follow
and what they need to do to bring about the change that their organization expects them to bring.
It defines the barriers that CIOs have to break to cope up with increasing demands and helps them become more aware about themselves,
which is a stepping stone to lead change. It explains the different types of CIOs, what self-limiting traps to be aware of, and some psychometric
instruments available to understand themselves better.
Once CIOs are self-aware, they need to become aware of others, which has been explained in a separate chapter. It deals in different types
of CEOs and what they really expect from IT, and the CIO in particular. Besides understanding people, its also important to understand the
organization in order to know what to change and how to lead it. This is the longest chapter of the book, and explains the process very well.
The last few chapters are dedicated to creating change generative conversations, and a framework for CIO leadership roles and
competencies inventory.
The book is very detailed with lots of frameworks and models for CIOs to gear up to lead change. While its not a very lengthy book, it does
tend to get a bit heavy at times, requiring concentrated effort to understand what the author wants to say.
Overall, a must read for every CIO wanting to lead in the new digital economy.

MEDICAL ELECTRONICS
The FDA approved portable heart rate monitor gives accurate cardiac readings
Rohit Arora
liveCor monitors your heart by observing single-channel electrocardiogram (ECG) rhythms. It also displays ECG rhythms (on
your mobile screen) and detects atrial fibrillation which is the
most common form of abnormal heart condition responsible for chest
pain, fainting or even congestive heart failure. AliveCor is a US based
company, which has introduced the device in India in collaboration
with Appollo Hospitals.
How accurate is AliveCor?: The portable heart rate monitor has
been given clearance by United States Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) for its accuracy to detect atrial fibrillations. It is compatible
with iPhones and a variety of Android smartphones. We tested it on
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 3GS.
How to use: Setting up the device is quite an easy job. You
just need to install the AliveECG application for your device. The
application requires an account setup to use the ECG monitor. After
setting up the account you can simply start taking readings that will
be stored at two places: one in the application itself on your mobile
device and the other on the AliveCors server. The recorded readings
can be sent to your doctor via email (from the app itself) so that you
can get instant information about your health. The application also
has a library of all sorts of useful cardiac information. The PDF report
of a reading occupies just 35KB of space. Also, you do not need any
prescription for using it. The application provides separate features
for medical professionals. Once they register, they can add their
patients and allow those patients to send their ECGs directly to them
through this app.
You can stick the monitor at the back of your smartphone but it is
really tough to remove the monitor once it is fixed. So we recommend
buying an extra back cover on which you can stick the monitor. The
monitor takes the electrical signals when you rest your fingers on it
and converts them to ultrasound waves to communicate with your
phone through its microphone. It is very light so you can keep it fixed
without worrying about the increased weight.
We took readings in various situations for varying levels of physical
activity during the day and found a definite difference in the readings.
You can also comment on a particular reading to keep track of the
situation in which it was taken.
How is it useful?: This device will be useful for people undergoing
cardiac treatment. They dont have to take the trouble of going all the
way to a diagnostic lab if theyd just like to share a quick ECG with
their doctor. Any health conscious person might also find this device
useful. Lastly, doctors and physicians can also use this to check the
ECG of their patients and then decide whether to send them to a
diagnostic center for a detailed investigation.
With all such advantages, there are some setbacks too. The
manufacturer has not recommended the monitor for patients with
a cardiac pacemaker as it may not accurately detect the pacing
spikes from the pacemaker. Another disadvantage of the device is its

SMARTWATCH
The latest smartwatch from Samsung takes smartphone functionality to a new level
Rohit Arora
ear S is the sixth smart watch from the Korean giant and this
time Samsung goes one step ahead by integrating sim card
support for 3G data and voice calling. However the agenda
here is not to offer a second phone on your wrist but to further
enhance the functionality of your smartphone. Lets find out if Gear S
does that or not.
The mammoth curved oLED on wrist: The 2-inch AMOLED display (480x360-pixel) of Gear S delivers 300 ppi which is the highest
among the available smart watches in the market. Like other AMOLED
panels from Samsung, it is enriched with vibrant colours, deep blacks
and has very good viewing angles which are actually an essential
requirement for smartwatches. We had no problem in checking time
and notifications even in direct sunlight.
The good and the bad: The bigger screen makes Gear S a bulky
piece of technology at 67g. We felt like we are carrying one of those
early Samsung Duos phones on our wrist with a band. But this
increased size lets you consume a variety of digital content on your
watch itself which is quite handy. You can check and reply to emails,
tweets, go through daily news, check weather information, calendar
events, etc. Personally it was a good experience to have all above
things on your wrist while keeping your phone in the pocket. Gear S
delivers a sense of freedom from your smartphone as you can rely on
it for most of the tasks.
But typing experience on a 2 inch screen is a pain. The keys are
crumbled and you just cant type anything without making a dozen
mistakes. Replying to an e-mail will not be an easy job but you can
work it out in situations when your phone is away. Gear S has a pleasing design (except the bulkiness), the chrome edges sits on the curved
AMOLED display and looks elegant. The home button in the center has
a nice circular pattern and the durable interchangeable rubberised
strap is connected by a solid chrome finished lock mechanism.
The bundled sensors: Wearable devices are supposed to interact
with environment and Gear S does this with the help of integrated
sensors. UV sensor measures the content of UV rays while you are
in direct sunlight, the barometer measures the stairs covered by
sensing the elevation. Then there is an accelerometer, a compass
with gyroscope, the optical heart rate sensor and the regular ambient
light for screen brightness. You also get IP67 rating to protect it from
dust and water. There is Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, 4GB of internal storage
and 512MB of RAM coupled with a dual-core 1 GHz Snapdragon 400
processor. You can open almost all the applications simultaneously
and it handles them with ease. The sound delivered by the speaker is
of average quality and we also observed occasional call drops while
using the watch with sim card integrated.
Tizen oS is way behind Android: Gear S packs a good hardware
but it is the Samsungs own kid--Tizen OSwhich does not justify its
true potential. It has a very limited number of applications accompa-
nied by some Gear apps. There is S Voice from Samsung, Nokia Here
maps, Nike+ running app and Samsungs S Health services. Samsung
really needs to widen the application base for their smartwatches.
Bottom line: The true power of this device lies in understanding
that this is not a replacement for your smartphone, it is something
which enhances the functionality of your smartphone to a new level.
Keep it this way and you will understand the true potential of a smart
device on your wrist. However its high pricing is something Samsung
needs to reconsider.

ortronics new adjustable Mobile stand Mobilio comes with an LED lamp. It is a perfectly designed
stand that allows you use it in two ways as an LED lamp or as a mobile stand. The two-in-one
stand provides true hands-free experience while playing from your mobile and also the freedom
to adjust your mobile the way you like, in terms of its angle and position of play. The bottom clamp can
be easily attached to any surface like the headboard of the bed, a table or even outdoors depending on
where you wish to use your lamp/mobile.
It can hold mobiles starting from 3.5 inches to 6.3 inches securely above a staging area as well as
enable you to adjust the screen at any angle or position. Its flexible aluminum gooseneck holder provides
a flexible and adjustable option to change the angles of your mobile as per your convenience. It also
supports a complete 360 degrees rotation for landscape and portrait viewing mode. The LED lamp can be
used just like a normal bedside lamp with a complete 360 degrees rotation for adjustments.
Bottom line: It is a flexible mobile stand, which could be a perfect choice for people looking for true
hands-free experience, and an LED lamp for bedtime reading. However, we expect inbuilt-battery support
at such price-point, which is missing, as it needs constant power from a USB port to use it as a lamp..
