ROSEOLA 10 15 20 25 The mild exanthematous illness we now call roseola was recognized as early as 1870 and well characterized as a distinct and frequent syndrome of infancy by the early part of the 20th century. Though many _1__have been given to this _2__(exanthem subitum, roseola infantum, roseola infantalis, sixth disease, and __3_), the distinct sequence of events and epidemology _4_ by early authors are recognizable to _5__ clinicians. Within the past few _6_, we have finally learned a great __7__ about the underlying cause of _ 8 _ —human herpes virus (HHV-6)- and the possible __9 _ of transmission. This discovery is raising provocative new _10__ about other conditions that may be caused by HHV-6 _11__other childhood infectious _12_. Roseola is a benign, _13__ illness that affects young _14_, usually _15__6 months and 2 years of _16_. The fever persists without accompanying _20__of illness for approximately three days, and a_21__ develops as the fever __22_. The child's temperature then sometimes _23__ below normal for a short time. The rapid initial rise in body temperature is often cited asthe _24__for the frequent association 25 _ seizures and roseola. Itis the typical _26__ of fever followed by detervescence and rash that allows the _27__ to recognize this benign condition. 28 _ diagnosis is not important except to _29__ the likelihood of other disease entities. Though __30__ enlargement of the suboccipital__31__ nodes may ‘occur in _32__ with roseola, other lymphadenopathy is not_33__, and there is _34__ hepatosplenomegaly. Palpeblal edema is sometimes seen during the febrile period and may point to the _35__ before a rash develops. 127 128 a) descriptions b) cures ©) names a) condition b) harm, ©) temperature a) others b) measies. ©) syndrome a) treated b) diagnosed ©) described a) other b) modem: ©) diagnosis a) diseases ») clinicians ©) years, a) deal b) danger ) treatment a) fever b) roseola ©) death a) danger b) mode. ©) epidemics 1. a) questions b) research 6) treatments, 1 12. 13. 14, 15. 16. 17. 18, 19. 20. a) and about b) before ©) asa result of a) researches b) cures ©) diseases a) harmful b) self-limiting ©) incurable a) adults ) parents ©) infants a) before b) between ) atter a) age ') duration ©) effects a) fever b) diagnosis ©) invisible a) onset ») fall ©) end a) temperature b) high ©) normal a) cure b) treatment ©) signs 21 22, 23, 24 25. 26. 27. a) virus b) epidemics ©) rash a) appears b) subsides ©) rises a) falls b) increases ©) develops a) reason ) transmission ) observation a) between b) after ) without a) treatment b) pattern ©) disease a) infant ) researcher ©) clinician 28. 30. a1 92. 33 36. a) Wrong b) Precise ¢) Clinical a) rule out b) include 6) attack a) no 'b) dangerous ) mild a) iymph b) muscle ©) nerve a) adults b) patients: ©) contact a) observed b) absent ©) latent a) no ) serious ©) enlarged a) cure ) diagnosis ¢) virus 129
